Pros
Easy to use, the free version of the software provides a good number of sensors to work with and easy to integrate.
The customer service is fantastic. It's very configurable and once you learn the basic setup it's easy to set up new systems and services.
I love the licensing model for PRTG. I can just buy a bulk set of sensors and then I can "spend" those sensors in any way that I like.
Cons
They sporadically experienced strange bandwidth problems and the cable provider didn't solve the problem within months.
After paying them for support all this time I am done with this company, they are a scam.
Windows based, and sometimes it's awkward to manage lots of linux machines with it - especially when the monitoring requires scripts to run on the remote machines.

That really made my Day!

Reviewed 7 years ago

First of all: Actually (April 2016) the product is free for up to 100 Sensors! I was searching for an easy solution to monitor the internetconnection of one of my customers from outside. They sporadically experienced strange bandwidth problems and the cable provider didn't solve the problem within months. So while searching for an easy to install and use monitoring (simple ping) solution I found...

Pros

Very good structure and overview of your devices and systems load, usage, availability and traffic Easy install and use. No deep knowledge of MIB, RMON, LINUX or SNMP necessary Free for small environments Very Flexible (google 'prtg netatmo' for an impression :) Be aware and informed about uprising problems (Mail, SMS, Mobile) You literally see what your users experience

Cons

Really! I have been thinking, but didn't find that much. Rather ... nothing? OK, one: you need a Windows system. That might be an issue for some.

PRTG guarantees continuous and detailed monitoring of your network.

Reviewed 4 months ago

Over the years we have experienced failures in our network which have allowed us to learn details that we could correct over time, usually our technical support function was corrective, that is, when a failure occurred our team worked and corrected the anomaly presented, with PRTG we could proactively turn the work into preventive, with the possibility of preconfiguring thresholds on nodes and other specific equipment we could detect failures such as traffic jams, loops and even in some BRAS servers failures such as lack of IPv4 addresses; All this allowed us to improve the network's operability, reducing downtime.

Pros

Honestly I have used several tools that allow us to perform the analysis of our IT infrastructure and I can say that PRTG has given us a hand in relation to monitoring, remote management and fault detection in equipment such as switches and other transport network equipment, in addition to them and based on the previous configuration where we parameterize the nominal values to determine their normal operation which gives us timely alerts to take corrective actions on the spot, the tool is very complete and customizable to our need.

Cons

The implementation of the tool is the point where you have to be more careful to make good use of this and in turn PRTG perform the functions for which it was designed, in the initial configuration thresholds are determined which are not the same in all organizations therefore requires that the staff implementing the application has extensive knowledge in network administration and the learning curve is steep despite being intuitive tool.

Vendor response

Dear Alejandro Enrique, Thank you for your valuable feedback! We are glad to hear that PRTG plays an important role in monitoring, remote management and fault detection of your IT infrastructure. We understand that the initial implementation requires careful thought and a good understanding of network administration, and we appreciate your comment on the learning curve. PRTG, great network monitor when it isn't crashing or glitching

Reviewed 7 years ago

The software is very easy to set up, which is a plus. But for some reason it keeps giving faults reports, and sometimes would randomly crash. Tested on multiple devices. Has potential to be great though.

Pros

easy to set up, has good potential

Cons

Crashes and is glitchy, could use some work.

Vendor response

We're really sorry that PRTG isn't running smoothly for you. Most crashes are related to hardware or operating system configurations -- would you be willing to open a support ticket with our support team, so they can check your logs for you? The logs would also help them debug any false positives you are getting. We'd be happy to help get PRTG running for you.

Monitoring servers and network

Reviewed 5 months ago

100% satisfied with it

Pros

Very easy to setup and to add servers to the main dashboard. The alert setup process was extremely easy and the different rules of when an issue needs escalation or has been resolved is a plus. Can see trends of issues which can help diagnosing problems.

Cons

None, love it so far. We have less than 100 sensors, so we are using the free version. We couldn't ask for something better to use instead.Although deprecated sensors can sometimes be time consuming to replace, it is greatly appreciated they keep things up to date!

Vendor response

Dear Jose, Thank you for your positive feedback! We're glad to hear that the setup process, alert configuration, and issue trend analysis were all easy and helpful for you. We appreciate your review and look forward to continuing to exceed your expectations. Your Paessler Team

Reviewed 10 months ago

it's still very good, although the dashboard and backup is a bit pain, but it's reliable and give me a pic of what the network situation

Pros

reliability, this is the software for telling me what is happening over the network, so it must need to very accurate and reliable that i can trust on and react to it.

Cons

backup is a big headache still, and no easy way to do it. i would prefer automation on this area.Dashboard are not easy to me. so I just click on device page instead of staying in dashboard
