What is Botpress?
Botpress is an enterprise-grade, cloud-based AI agent platform designed for customer support operations across SaaS, e-commerce, IT, healthcare, and general business sectors. Hosted on AWS with automatic scaling, it combines a visual drag-and-drop agent builder (Studio), a full ticket management system (Desk), a TypeScript SDK (ADK), and a conversation-based pricing model with no per-seat cost. It operates as a standalone helpdesk or layered on top of an existing support stack, serving solo operators, small teams, agencies, and large enterprises alike.
The platform's Autonomous Engine uses LLM reasoning to make decisions, execute multi-step workflows, and connect to external APIs without rigid scripting. Agents are configured through Autonomous Nodes, where behavior is defined in natural language, allowing agents to analyze complex queries and generate context-aware responses. Knowledge Bases are built from uploaded documents, website ingestion, spreadsheets, and CSVs, giving agents structured, searchable sources of truth. Tables provide persistent, session-spanning data storage updated mid-conversation. Configurable LLM selection allows mixing models across workflow steps for cost, speed, or capability trade-offs. Over 190 pre-built integrations cover CRMs, e-commerce platforms, and messaging channels including Salesforce, HubSpot, Zendesk, Shopify, Slack, WhatsApp, and Instagram.
Botpress addresses data security through SOC II certification, GDPR compliance, HIPAA-aligned data handling, and penetration testing by KPMG. PII and sensitive data are stripped before reaching any LLM provider, with no provider-side retention or training on customer data. Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) escalation passes full conversation history, account details, and prior troubleshooting steps to live agents with no cold transfers. Enterprise customers can configure data retention and residency policies on custom deployment terms. A free tier is available with no credit card required.
