Nagios XI is like a horse and buggy: you use it when you'd like a taste of what the old world used to be like. Does it work? Yes, in the same way that a horse and buggy will get you wherever you'd like to go. But if you want to get somewhere in an efficient manner, and you don't want to deal with the tool taking a huge crap every once in a while, use a more modern, metric-based system like Prometheus.

Nagios XI was easy to setup (from the tools we tested), although it has many plugins you can always and easily create your own plugin (anything that is measurable), it has good alerting system when it comes to emails, seems like the GUI/UX could have been more modern but overall experience is very good.

Nagios Xi web interface user friendly.  It allows us to keep the eyes on the complete infrastructure run without any bug as it helps us to identify the failures and also identify the cause of the failure. Configuration snapshot is also helpful  to clone the configuration monitoring settings.

Nagios XI is a truly powerful system that offers enough to monitor the infrastructure and generate reports about what is being observed. The tool contains a variety of configuration preferences and is very easy to use. So far I have not found a solution that helps me just like Nagios.

For small telecommunications companies it is very good, it allows to monitor networks simultaneously and control the statistics very well

                                                       The business problems that we were solving using Nagios was for monitoring our cloud and on-premise infrastructure. While it did seem to be an okay product, it did miss a lot of features that other products in the marketplace do have.
                                                       I think the thing I like most about Nagios was it was pretty straightforward to set up. To make changes to it was pretty good. And the actual interface for looking at monitoring was quite nice, although it did seem a little bit dated.
                                                       I think the first thing I would change about Nagios is the name. It doesn't really say what it does on the tin. The other thing is they need to look at the cloud infrastructure in the marketplace these days, and they need to add functionality and add options and improve Nagios if they want to stay a top player.

                                                       Before Nagios XI, we used what I like to call the user method of IT monitoring, when there's a problem, the user lets us know, and then we jump into action. Unfortunately, this is not very scalable. It doesn't really give a good impression for an IT department to rely on users reporting problems. When I started working at my company, I wanted to make sure we had an easy to use monitoring system that we would use to eliminate those sorts of things. And so, Nagios XI was a big step up from essentially nothing.
                                                       I chose Nagios XI because it's simple, simple in the sense that it is traditionally easy to set up, if you have a lot of on-premises servers, a lot of fairly simple stuff, which we did at the time, and there are many, many different Nagios check scripts. There's a lot of existing Nagios knowledge out there. So I thought I could take advantage of that and make the process a whole lot easier.
                                                       The Nagios XI documentation is better than the Nagios open source documentation, but that's not really saying a lot. So it was fairly easy to get set up for a simple use case like ours, where you have only a handful of things getting started. As we grew though, I found that the process did not scale all that well. Nagios XI can scale vertically a little bit. It can't really scale horizontally. In other words, you can't easily set up additional Nagios XI instances unless you pay for additional Nagios software. So while it was a little bit easier than classic Nagios, I found that the effort in the end was met with very disappointing results.
                                                       If you're thinking about Nagios XI, consider what it means when people say it's easy to use. It's easy in the sense that it is conceptually easy to think about. You've got the Nagios server. You've got the agent that runs on the servers you want to manage, and you've got some check scripts you can write in any particular programming language to check the things. It sounds conceptually easy. Practically speaking, it's not nearly that simple.
                                                       Nagios XI does have commercial support, but the agents do not. You also don't have access to a real robust set of check scripts. So that increases the workload on your part too, to develop and maintain these scripts or to scour the internet, trying to find things where people have had somewhat working results. You'll probably have to tweak those, and in the end, it starts off simple. It works for a very simple environment. For a larger environment, for a containerized environment, for any real environment where you want to have a lot of stuff already done, it doesn't work that well. It's okay to come into a Nagios XI environment, but I would not get started with that for a significant use case, unless you want to plan ahead for this, well in advance.
