What users say

I wish they had an affiliate program because I would be making some money. Lol My only issue is with the screen recording but understand this is a new feature and they are still working out the bugs.
It is very inexpensive compared to other tools or hiring freelancers. Descript enables me to make more high-quality content, and repurpose existing content into other formats.

Video interviews made easy

Reviewed 3 years ago

I used descript to build scripts from video interviews on a few jobs so far. I love removing filler words, “um’s” and “a”s. Building scripts from transcription services is great, but you still have to mark with a time code and match clips to get the work done. I love theses of exporting the xml and seeing my work in Final Cuts after editing in descript. Saves me hours.

Pros

The difference Descript has over other transcription services is that you can 1. Create variations by making different projects 2. Export XML to Final Cut or Premier for an edited version that speeds up workflow for interviews and the spoken word. Learning the software is pretty straight forward and they have great tutorials when you run into a snag. Descript has been a game changer for my corporate and personal profile video workflow. I share the script with my client and ask them to highlight stuff they want me to try and keep in their spoken word. When I’m done putting a rough together, I send them a link from the site. Super easy and looks really professional.

Cons

I can’t really say there are any con’s at the moment. This software tops the other transcription services that I was using and wouldn’t go back because of the features and cost of descript.

All-In-One Content Editing Solutions That is Affordable

Reviewed a year ago

I have saved countless hours using the transcription and text-to-voice features. This is the first software that I find to have a natural sounding AI with affordable price tag. I also could make the AI learn my voice and my inflections, and become one of the AI speaker, so I don't have to record my voice ever again

Pros

Text-to-speech feature. The feature could learn my voice and turn it into an AI voice. Now, I don't have to record my own voice for the audio of my next video project

Cons

In the span that I have been using the software, there has been major updates and changes made. More and more features have been added like the video editing for example, and some changes to the UI. I am mainly using it for audio purposes only, so the new features are not relevant to me. But I still have to be updated with the UI changes as it affects my work flow. I am still in the learning curve to master the software

project editor for visual learners

Reviewed 3 years ago

Overall it's an innovative product and a lot more cost-effective than others on the market. It may not be perfect but it has helped me a lot in my projects. A clever virtual multi-tool for creators.

Pros

I like that I can edit a video based on the visual transcription, The AI and that while I'm recording I get a transcription simultaneously. The features I desire most are a dark mode feature, a chroma key feature so I can add light overlay and animation. I would also like a pause feature added to screen recording and voice recording because I use this to help me think in between recording without stopping the session. And please fix bugs such a lagging. And the integrations I would recommend are Audacity, Davinci Resolve, and Anchor FM because that is what I use.

Cons

Sometimes there are glitches if I am working in multiple windows and Ill get error codes. Sometimes it's hard to place tracks on the timeline, You click where you want it to go and it goes somewhere else in the project. I want some filler words to stay included and it's hard for me to figure out how to keep them. When I record audio and mess up, the overdub function doesn't pop up when I right-click. I wish the zoom and pan were smoother looking.

Descript: The Megatron of Podcast Software

Reviewed a year ago

I can't thank the company enough for creating this software. We're really benefitting from its capacity and feature-load.

Pros

I don't know where to begin with this software and how it has formatively changed the game for my organization's podcast. It has truly cut our work time in half and opened up that free time to accomplish other tasks. From the auto-transcription to the voice recognition, Descript seamlessly integrates audio into text form which helps us build our scripts for each podcast episode. It's fascinating how powerful it is - and what's more, Descript is constantly updating the software, so new features are always popping up.

Cons

The cost is definitely hard for our limited nonprofit budget, but otherwise, I don't have any dislikes-- even the mistakes the auto-transcription makes are passable because we're still saving so much time.

Inspired

Reviewed 3 years ago

It's fantastic. I'm so grateful to the team who built this and continues to improve the software. They are all adding tremendous value to my life. Thank you.

Pros

This makes editing audio podcasts a real joy. I love it.

Cons

No dark mode. When I'm editing a specific section and I hit play the timeline will move with the playhead and I'll have to zoom out and return to the spot I'm editing to further fine tune. Shortcuts are being added quickly and I am feeling lost. Would love a 1 on 1 coaching session on how to get the most out of the software. I would pay for it if I had to.

Bang for Buck

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

The price of Descript makes it an easy choice for me as a single person doing audio/video edits and transcription for workshops, support calls, course videos, podcasts, and more. It's an essential piece of my workflow and being able to do video/audio edits as easily as deleting a sentence on the screen is phenomenal.

Cons

The export process for the Creator edition is lacking: I don't need or want the Descript default publishing system of published/hosted pages and transcripts or audiograms. If they had a bulk export option: video, transcript, and subtitles files, I would love it even more. If they had a direct upload to Vimeo I would be over the moon!

Invaluable Resource for Podcast Editing

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

The Descript editing suite could not be more convenient to learn and utilize for editing your podcast. Perfectly organized and logical in its set up, it cannot get any easier to use this tool. This type of editing software that used to cost a fortune (and take up gigabytes of memory), is now available at an economical price, with all of the capabilities you'd expect - and more.

Cons

Nothing so far. It's been a dream - and fun - to produce podcast episodes using this software package.

So much value!

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

I was truly deeply excited when I first used the software. And that's rare for me! Jam packing so many features into one software. Amazing. Video editing by editing text. Amazing automatic transcriptions. Closed captioning. Overdubbing with a robot voice clone that's just like my own. This is truly amazing!

Cons

I really have nothing to complain about. the automatic transcriptions are not perfect out of the box, but they can't be. I don't expect them to be. But I'm sure AI technology will continue to improve in this area exponentially.

Quick, accurate and easy automated transcription.

Reviewed 3 years ago

I'm dealing with audio files that can be long, with many different people speaking, often not native speakers. Working with an auto-generated transcript saves a lot of time. With clear speakers Descript is highly accurate which makes it a very helpful tool. The price is very reasonable.

Pros

It is very easy to create a draft transcript of good quality fast (depending on the speaker).

Cons

I still use Word or Google docs for editing. On first sight the editor does not seem very intuitive but to be fair I didn't really give it a try. It would be great if accents of native speakers could be recognized by Descript.

Descript is a Decent Software

Reviewed a year ago

I subscribe because it provides value to me with podcast and audio editing.

Pros

I really like the automatic transcription, and the ease of clicking to remove pauses, "oohs" "ums", etc.

Cons

Steep learning curve now and then depending on the feature. You need a decent internet connection, and even then it can seem a bit slow. But this is to be expected with media editing.

Intuitive and Powerful Software For Editing and Producing Content

Reviewed 3 years ago

Overall, it was good. However, I was not using it to its fullest capacity - like doing full edits of video, podcasts, narrations, etc. My main use was for the transcription and caption file features.

Pros

For how robust the software is, it's remarkably affordable. The amount of included automatic transcription hours is quite generous, especially compared to other tools.

Cons

The automatic transcription - although very good, missed a LOT of nuances, words and phrases that sometimes made editing the transcription a real pain and a lengthy process.

Amazing set of tools for content creators

Reviewed 3 years ago

With Descript I don't have to use a set of expensive tools or hire too many freelancers. It is also a very beautiful software that is easy to use.

Pros

There is so much boring groundwork we have to do as content creators. Descript just makes everything much easier and faster. It is very inexpensive compared to other tools or hiring freelancers. Descript enables me to make more high-quality content, and repurpose existing content into other formats.

Cons

I use the transcribing feature a lot, and it can be a bit inaccurate.

The best at removing filler words and silence

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

The most robust stand-alone software I have used for what I needed, which was removing filler words and silences. Not only that it makes audiograms and provides transcription too

Cons

The cost. I do not need to use Descript all the time, only when I have projects which may be once every other month. So I cant justify a yearly cost.

Wonderful software, goes above & beyond what you’d expect

Reviewed 3 years ago

My overall experience with Descript has been incredibly positive. It has so many capabilities beyond transcription, and it has a beautiful UI that keeps everything organized in a really user-friendly way.

Pros

After using many expensive transcription services, I thought it was time to look for something a little more automated and a bit more affordable. I came across this software and decided to give it a try since there is really nothing to lose. I honestly didn’t expect much, but what I got was far and away beyond what I ever expected to get. The transcription ability of the AI here is really wonderful for the product. It will require some work on your end is you need it presentable, but I’d you’re just using it for recordings, it does a really great job.

Cons

I honestly have almost nothing to complain about, even remotely. The only thing I would caution against is expecting perfection from this as a transcription service.

I love descript!

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

I love how Descript is like editing a word document. While standard editing involves complicated listening and painstaking effort, Descript is effortless. One guest once asked me to edit out his "ums" and "uhs" and offered to rerecord if it was too much work. With Descript, all I had to do was click a button.

Cons

Descript is fairly expensive, especially considering how much free software there is online. There are also limited transcription hours which can be frustrating.

Absolutely amazing tool to edit audio

Reviewed 3 years ago

I like Descript overall and anyone who does podcast or multiple screen recording should definitely give it a try.

Pros

The best thing about Descript is that how easy is it to transcript a video on it. I also love the fact that you can simply delete unnecessary words and even change them. Their screen recording plugin is great too.

Cons

It's a bit on the expensive side and also it's not a full-fledged video editor. You'll still have to use another tool to do the final editing.

My secret weapon for writing case studies

Reviewed 2 years ago

Easy to use, really cost efficient. Not the most accurate solution out there, but good value for money.

Pros

I love that I can dump the recording of our video call into Descript and have it pop out a full transcription. I really appreciate that it identifies multiple speakers and can transcribe even if the speakers have accents.

Cons

It is difficult for Descript to process Scottish accents, so the readout of those conversations is pretty funny. Unfortunately that accent is difficult for me to process as well, even playing it at 0.7x speed.

Great value for novices looking to edit videos

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

I love being able to edit my audio and video and use Overdub to make corrections. I don't need to be a multimedia expert to do this.

Cons

I'd like it to have Dark Mode for longer-term use.
