Pros
Best of all Memsource is exceptionally reliable and responsive to (the very few) issues that come up.
So far, I had an amazing experience with Memesource. Amazing customer service and a lot of information and trainings available for free.
I'm overall very happy, it's a good tool that has helped us a lot to improve our productivity, and our team of translators is also very happy with it.
Cons
Sometimes the segmentation of sentences is less than ideal, but it is not too much of a trouble.
You must include a large amount of projects in order to build up your translation memory. This makes it difficult to use some of its features until one has completed several projects.
When approving many segments, one after another at a fast past, it seems like it can't keep up (but no confirmation is lost, it only takes a little time to catch you up).

Great solution for online translation

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

A huge fan of Memsource. It's easy to operate and is a great online software for translation and localization. Vendors can log in using any browser and do not need to purchase any software themselves. Running an analysis is quick and easy. Whether you're familiar with other CAT tools or not, Memsource is easy to learn and navigate.

Cons

It would be nice to have a portal that allows in-context reviews.

Vendor response

Thanks a lot for your review, Noel! We really appreciate it.

One of the best web based CAT tools

Reviewed 24 days ago

memsource is a web based tool and in that sense it is less powerful than client based tools ("applications"), however, it is the best online tool on the market. Having said that, an offline editor is available where online projects can be downloaded to.

Pros

Unlike other CAT tools, memsource takes into account the needs of an arguably very important stakeholder group: translators. The user interface is self-explanatory, which makes it easy to get started. All items are where you would expect them to be. Also, the "aesthetics" of the user interface are helping me to translate. Colors are "logical" (rather than distracting) and all menus and panels are...

Cons

The search and replace dialog misses some options. Only basic search and replace options can be carried out. In the QA dialog, QA results are displayed in a structured manner, however, it sometimes requires extra time to search and fix the actual segment. Fixing inconsistencies for instance is tedious because it requires manual searching for the inconsistency in the file.

Not a Good Service for JP-EN Text Localization

Reviewed a month ago
Pros

I like the fact that I can export files in Memsource to a format that I can actually work in and use the tools of my trade. This is genuinely the only thing I like about the program.

Cons

Compared to Google Sheets, this program is simply for managers who value quantity over quality because it provides them an overview of how many scripts are done without them needing to go in and actually read any text. As a worker in the workflow, I cannot view any documents without the potential of a major technical issue requiring a ticket to fix (to which the "fix" was to create an entirely new...

Vendor response

Although we are sorry to see that our platform doesn't fit your use case, we thank you for your feedback - having access to different points of view, both positive and critical, makes it possible for us to develop software that is in line with the expectations and needs of our customers. You're correct that our solution is primarily designed with enterprise clients in mind and it is therefore possible that some other, smaller-scale use cases won't be able to benefit from our feature-set. In any case, thanks again for your feedback. We do appreciate it.

A Great Tool For Text Management

Reviewed a month ago

Memsource has made it much easier for me to keep product-, project- and client-specific vocabulary consistent over time. Whenever there has been a technical problem, the company has provided quick and efficient customer service. I have found Memsource the best product for my specific needs at a very reasonable price point.

Pros

I have been using Memsource as a translation tool since 2016 and it has continually improved. The company has added useful features while not overwhelming (or irritating) me with constant updates. For the most part I do translations that are not suitable for raw machine translation; however, Memsource has excellent tools for creating translation memories and glossaries that help me keep track of the chosen terminology for any given client or project over time. I also find that jobs and projects are uploaded, tracked and organized in an intuitive way that works very well for me.

Cons

The only challenge I've encountered is the discrepancy between how the cloud version and the desktop version of the software work. They're both good, but there are small differences that slow me down. In the end, I primarily use the cloud version, reverting to the desktop software only when I'm travelling and therefore working without an internet connection.

Vendor response

Thanks for your great feedback, Bonnie! It's so helpful to hear what's working well for you, and also that differences between the desktop and mobile editor are slowing you down, we'll pass that on internally. Otherwise, happy to hear that you're finding Memsource to be a helpful tool to keep your translations consistent!

Freelancer review

Reviewed a month ago

Good. Mainly use it for MTPE. Most of my clients (agencies) now work with Memsource.

Pros

I mainly use this for machine translation post editing. The quality of the output is always good and the text is easy to edit.

Cons

I use Memsource through agencies, so there are certain features that I don't use because it's done by the agency. Sometimes autopropogate seems to be missing when I do a normal (non-MTPE) project. Maybe this is because of the settings configured by the agency itself. I'm not sure about this.
