Pros and cons

The integration in various software such as Notion is an added point that makes it a much better program. The interface is good, and all creative processes are fast, which greatly helps productivity.
I found this software so easy to use and you can create the most incredible mindmaps. I love all the wonderful additions where you can incorporate costings, web links and notes.
This was so easy to learn to use, and the help and opening tutorial were super straightforward.
The problem is that nothing layouts out the connections the way we know them. I am creating the framework for our database for the future.
I had a problem to see them, I miss the ability to enlarge them or readjust them according to my needs.
So far I have not stumbled over things that bother me ... the only thing might be the need of an internet connection.

Still the gold standard of mind map software

Reviewed 4 years ago

Transcript

Fraser N.: Hi, I'm Fraser. I'm founder of a marketing consultancy, and I'd give MindMeister five out of five. I looked at a number of different mind mapping softwares, because it is quite a busy market, and there were a number of options. I used options such as FreeMind and XMind and MindManager in their time, but none of them were as professional or as good quality or compatible across devices as MindMeister. The reason that I plunked for MindMeister in the end as my mind mapping software of choice is just simply the quality and professionalism of the output. The maps look good. You can edit them. You can change the styles, and it's just an all-around professional product. And mind mapping is a very important software for my line of business, where I'm showing how ideas and concepts work, that I didn't want to have the risk of using a free software that isn't supported properly and might not be developed as well over time. I found MindMeister very easy to get going with and get onboarded with. It's very intuitive, and like all the best products, it's also simple. It does what I need, and it does it very well. If you're looking at mind map software, I've no hesitation in saying go for it with MindMeister. There's always a danger of using the free options, and some of the other options in the market are more limited and also can be quite complex at the same time. So with that, I'd recommend MindMeister as the go-to mind mapping software.

Extremely intuitive tool for creating beautiful mind maps

Reviewed 2 years ago

MindMeister is a great tool for mind mapping and creative brainstorming. I love its intuitive interface, the export functionality, endless canvas and integration with Google Drive. If you are a visual person or looking for a simple way for organizing your ideas, this can be your go-to tool.

Pros

MindMeister is a simple online tool for creating mind maps, project tasks or meeting notes. My team has used it for around 1.5 years and we have absolutely loved it. It helps in brainstorming the ideas with your hybrid team members and organize those ideas in a structured way. It has extremely intuitive UI and anyone can start using it without any training. You can upload different files from your local system or google drive. This features is extremely helpful when you want to attach details for a particular step. Once you have created a mind map, you can export it in different format like .pdf, .png, .docx, .pptx etc. and share it with your team members or client stakeholders.I love the collection of pre-built templates in MindMeister as it saves up a lot of time during ideation sessions.

Cons

A big drawback of MindMeister is that it doesn't allow you to create process/data flow diagrams (like BPMN). Due to this limitation, you might need to switch to a different tool. Additionally, we have faced a bit of a lag if the mind map is extremely detailed out or having large files attached to it. Also, its free plan only allows you to create a few documents and doesn't provide enough features.

Why did they change the best mind mapping app there is?

Reviewed 9 months ago

At this point, I'm very disappointed. It was excellent for brainstorming an enormous thesis project and for designing extensive action research, but the new developments are just extremely disappointing.

Pros

This app's functionality and user interfact is second to none. The speed with which you can brainstorm is excellent.

Cons

I have been stuck in a loop of not being able to connect to my account, getting extremely slow and convoluted customer service, reestablishing access, then losing it again for the last 5 months. I also seriously dislike the new updates. When I started using this service (in grad school), it was absolutely exceptional. I loved being able to make a mind map quickly, then turn it into a presentation on the spot, adjusting the order of the cells as "slides" in the presentation... it was SO useful. Now, they got away from that for some reason.

Vendor response

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We sincerely apologize for the challenges you've faced in accessing your account and we are sorry that you are disappointed by recent updates. Your concerns have been escalated internally to ensure that the responsible departments are aware. We understand the importance of providing efficient and user-friendly service, and we are committed to improving your experience. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our Support Team under support@mindmeister.com if you encounter any remaining issues or if there's anything else we can assist you with.

MindMeister - Easy to use, powerful and flexible Mind Mapping software

Reviewed 6 years ago

If you use Mind Mapping (and you should), Mindmeister is a great tool. Users are productive from day one; additional features to embellish maps can be used after the mapping exercise to create a passable presentation. As it is a SaaS product, easy to have several people contributing to a map. Highly recommended.

Pros

Very easy to use - the tool doesn't get in the way of the process; critical for mind mapping Reorganise and rearrange maps easily - even create submaps with links back to parent Good integrations - e.g. Microsoft Teams Can publish maps to public library, embed on website or share as editable or view only

Cons

Few complaints; resizing images could be easier (tough to grab the corner!); the interface could be prettier, but I'd sooner have functionality than pretty. Printing large maps on a single sheet or PDF is trickier than it needs to be. Sharing process could be simpler.

A (beautiful) Swiss army knife of mind maps

Reviewed 3 years ago

Also working in teams and collaborating with other people, this tool turns out to be really great and very efficient for mind map management. My wish would be to be able to buy it instead of having it as a subscription.

Pros

MindMeister makes the process of mind mapping enjoyable, fun and creative, allowing you to reason and design processes in a very pleasant and functional environment. Responsive and well-designed interface

Cons

Its shortcomings are very few. What I regret the most is the impossibility to buy it as a lifetime service, without depending on subscriptions that make the expense excessive compared to the real use.

Pros

Great interface, easy to use, instant synchronization.

Cons

I use it as todo/note organizer, grouping them by subject and specific to my usage I would have liked to have metadata that can be attached to items (date, priority, ...) and then having the possibility of sorting items on the same level by that metadata.

good :)

Pros

ease of use, minimal preparation, online collaboration

Cons

Available themes, Tree like structure of mind map and not being able to create graphs of ideas, not using the dimensions efficiently. (x axis may mean depth, y axis may mean breadth)

Vendor response

Hi there Amir, thanks so much for reaching out! I've forwarded your suggestion about embedding graphs/tables/spreadsheets into mind maps to our product team. It's a great idea! For now, you might find it helpful to attach a spreadsheet to a node, or to create an image of a graph/chart and insert it into your mind map. Not the best product for a casual mapping guy like me

Reviewed 5 years ago

I was trying to solve the first stage of a research project. How to picture the whole process: reading, drafting, and proofreading an academic article. I use maps especially for the drafting part: I sketch the whole article and I include in the map some direct quotes I have to include, which arguments I have to make in every part and so on.

Pros

-The best thing was the option of testing the product for free, with up to three maps. -It is also objectively a strength of the app how customizable every map can be. But, as I explain later, that is a little overwhelming for casual, simplistic users like me.

Cons

The interface is not as smooth and friendly as other mapping apps I have used. There are a lot of options to insert colors, symbols, and images. But, for me, it was distracting and it required a little bit too much of a learning curve. That is why I finally discarded it, after a few tries.

Challenge of SB/Coach Foundation. We need a tool to spread free and as possible as simplified, visualized free AIWorkspace network training to help people to reshape the workplace culture via trainee them by Mind Meister mind map app. We will use MindMeister to trainee a couple million Capital Bridge Coaches of the ealrys-stage startup non-profit org, SB/Foundation and the entrepreneurs investment bank, EIBANK in 2022

Pros

As a Lecturer, and Founder of AIWorkspace Network$, the early-stage startup of the Entrepreneur's investment bank EIBANK, and non-profit org. SB/Coach Foundation, launch in 2022 I am happy to discover MindMeister to use free training of a couple of million capital bridge coaches of SB/Coach Foundation in the AIWorkspace by MindMeister Mind Map. Why online educators, managers, marketing, sales, and CRM companies. 1. There is a FREE version for those who want to start to teach, or manage their own team, a project with MindMeister.' The problems: Old-style teaching, training or meeting tools. 2. As a lecturer, and strategic action plan developer and founder for the early-stage tech startups, and as we all know, when we present a text, Pdf infographic, video, or slides to teach or training 90% of people not interested, or it was not possible to see the whole picture of the whole picture with even short videos, or slides. Solutions 3. When you share your teaching plan, project plan, or training plan to own network, especially we are interested in online training, and when you share your mind map with related people via publish public or private via invite to mind map dashboard to your mind map, in a few minutes, related people can easily see the whole picture and easy to understand any teaching, training, or project details instead ofto force people with long videos, webinars to explain all education content, project content, or training

Cons

Benefits of Mind Meister for online educators, coaches, trainers, managers. 1. Open a FREE account to practice and to see how it is easy to plan your content. 2. Just browse templates or start from blank, in a couple of minutes, you can start to create your own strategic action plan or educational content, and you can be a pro-mind map expert in a couple of minutes. 3. Share with your community public or invite by email

Great and cheap ;)

Reviewed 5 years ago

Awesome! I've been using MindMeister for a long time and I can say that I have a life of study there. It is incredible how I can remember something I read two years ago really fast.

Pros

The facility in building mind maps that are beautiful and organized the way you want would be enough for me. But the tool for researching words on the maps are FANTASTIC. I can research a word through all maps or in an especific one. This really allows me to be faster at my work.

Cons

Although the price is affordable, I think the difference between annual and mothly plans should be more representative. I'd like to have an annual plan but, living in Brazil where dollar goes up and down, I can't know when it will really worth it.

Helped me sort my brain's information overflow.

Reviewed 3 years ago

Imagine you think like a computer, so organizing tasking into the base components and carrying them out is a great way to work, but what happens when your brain doesn't have multithreading capabilities and limited RAM? You start to lose things. Tasks, ideas, goals can get lost in the shuffle. With a well put together mind map you can keep running your brain the way it works while keeping organized track of all of your different projects on your mind map! It's truly fantastic. I recently used the service to map what I do in my current role at my job and it allowed me to feel confident in all of the places I have knowledge that I would have otherwise not remembered on the spot while writing my resume, cover letters, or even talking about myself. A wonderful way to keep your thoughts in order, and if you keep your maps to a specific goal, you can keep unwanted information from filling up your limited thought space!

Pros

The ability to really pour out the tiniest detail of your brain / task into a coherent way.

Cons

If you get expansive with your ideas, it can be hard to see with the limited font sizes and whatnot, but with a simple click and scroll wheel you can fix that problem...

Vendor response

Dear Brennan, thank you so much for reaching out and taking the time to write such an extensive review! We're thrilled to hear that MindMeister has been such a useful tool for bringing organization to your thoughts! I feel the same way... visualizing my responsibilities via interconnected nodes is a great way to make my work and personal life manageable. Finally: A digital, visual, FUN way to effectively organize and boost productivity

Reviewed 5 years ago

I'm a visual learner with lots of ideas, to-dos, distractions, and good intentions. On my own, I've tried writing lists, making my own digital map, using phone productivity apps, using tons of post-it notes, etc. to organize my jobs, projects, and seemingly endless daily tasks. I slowly admitted my own frustrations with not being able to effectively organize what I needed to do. Using MindMeister is the first time I actually see all of what I need to do in front of me, and it's color coded, neat, effective, and it oddly inspires me to work more. I'm a big fan of the templates and customization options. I use the Eisenhower Matrix template and I'm pleasantly surprised that it's actually improving my time management issues.

Pros

Free "Basic" plan is great for what I need now; Educator discount is available for if/when I choose to upgrade; free themes with many options for customization (I love color-coding); ability to merge MindMeister with MeisterTasks; Templates with tips on how to use them; Image generator based on Map title; Very user-friendly

Cons

The "Use" and "Preview" Template buttons are a little too close together. More than 3 font sizes would be nice.

Helps me be creative

Reviewed 5 years ago

I design my own courses, and I use Mindmeister to help me outline and think through my course organization. At first I was not sure that it was worth the money. Because it was almost time for renewal, I decided to begin a new project and outline it by hand. WIthin a day I realized that Mindmeister was definitely something that helped a lot. Not only can I move ideas around very easily, but I can also see my projects differently simply due to the ability to color similar ideas with the same color, and connect them to each other. Being able to move a chain of ideas without having to erase and start over was huge too. I realized that Mindmeister had been making a huge difference.

Pros

I like the visual aspect of creating an organized plan.

Cons

I would liked to have an actual list of different short tutorials.

New User Interface Impossible

Reviewed a year ago
Pros

Mind-mapping function not bad but forces order, length and position of topics such that producing a balanced map is extremely difficult.

Cons

The new User Interface / Menus have made it impossible to even find your mind-maps;Account details and subscriptions no longer reflect reality such that every time I try to navigate, I'm offered an upgrade to something I'm already paying;Help and Contact Us menus just take you round in circles; a truly appalling experience that wastes my very valuable time; I've now had to cancel my account - laughably I'm warned at least 3 times that all of my mind-maps / data will be irretrievably lost - strangely enough I have cancelled the account specifically because of this - it's already lost or 'hidden' in a nonsensical UI. I suspect I will however continue getting charged for the service...

Easiest Mindmap-Tool I've come across

Reviewed 5 years ago

There might be features I'm not aware of it that I am not using. That just doesn't matter to me because I wanted an intuitive, easy to use Mindmap-Tool and that is exactly what Mindmeister delivers. If you need a mindmap to organize a new project, this might just be for you.

Pros

Cross-platform functionality. I like it on Windows but was surprised to realize that it's even more intuitive on Android. The referral program for free users is standard to great. But the affiliate program for Business users is one of the best and fairest programs I've come across to date.

Cons

I think 3 free mindmaps is cutting it a little close. 5 would probably get more people to give it a try.

Pros

The versatility and creativity and style options are what keep me coming back. I can outline books, storylines, blog posts, brainstorm content, prepare character outlines. It's truly enjoyable to use the program.

Cons

I dislike that I do not have other format choices for exporting on the basic plan. I would like the option to export a mind map in 1 format of my choosing versus being restricted to the format type.
