What is DeskTime?

DeskTime is a fully automated cloud-based tracking solution that primarily monitors the productivity of freelance workers, small or medium businesses and collaborating teams. Aside from precisely totaling the amount of working hours spent on tasks and projects without any manual data entry required, the software also tracks in real time the usage of websites and apps. DeskTime provides detailed feedback on the apps and URLs visited at particular moments, along with any offline time spent carrying out other specified activities. This commitment to "accountability, transparency, and fairness" is said to be at the heart of the product, to provide visibility into productivity in a way that empowers employees rather than forging a sense of mistrust.

Key benefits of using DeskTime

  • DeskTime is real time project time tracking software for gauging productivity and identifying areas where time is being wasted.

  • DeskTime allows freelancers, colleagues and team managers to gain a better understanding of what's actually happening during work time, providing visibility into habits with app/URL usage tracking and the option of scheduled automatic screenshots.

  • Fully automated features means that no manual data entry is required to implement full, accurate tracking with an advanced DeskTime Reports tool for comparing team or individual effectiveness and exporting to CSV for sharing.

  • Coordinate time off more effectively with an Absence Calendar for scheduling and planning planned vacations or sick leave, useful for arranging workflows within teams and also within reports for payroll accounting purposes.

  • Accurately track the time taken on projects and tasks, using the data to generate more realistic estimates going forward and also bill clients more speedily for exactly what they owe.

    Pros
It's a nice and clean experience, highly recommended, I like the weekly reports and the way you cna see the information with amazing detail.
Absolutely thrilled to be using this. Provides One of the best customer care experience.
Thanks to the friend who recommended this to me. As company CEO and start-up, I would strongly recommend this.
    Cons
This is a problem, and ultimately the reason I stopped using Desktime.
Sometimes I may need to edit or add a block of private time, but I'm unable to do so.
I can’t imagine the company culture you would build watching your staff this closely. In a low unemployment economy, what employees would put up, with this software reporting to their boss all day.

Useful if you are remote working

    Reviewed 25 days ago
    Pros

Desktime is very useful in our line of work(remote-employees). It helps track of times that makes billing automated without having to submit a timesheet and such. The ability to schedule leaves are very useful as well. I also like how you can take screenshots that are blurred to maintain privacy.

    Cons

The log in and out process is a bit of hassle. You can’t just keep the software logged in at all times and then just flick a button to get it started. Of course you can do private time, but that is not very intuitive.

Finding the secret "time thieves" with DeskTime

    Reviewed 25 days ago

Wasting time on unproductive tasks was tremendously reduced as DeskTime assisted me with identifying which tasks don't make me money but just steal time

    Pros

DeskTime helps me enormously to find hidden time thieves in my everyday life, which was previously much less productive due to much more multitasking and constantly switching between tasks. By using DeskTime to visually record which unproductive tasks/distractions I deal with on a daily basis, I've been able to proactively address them and have regained a lot of productive work time as a result.

    Cons

The visual approach primarily aims to present information in a pragmatic way, but could use a more contemporary touch.

Desktime Review used mainly as a monitoring app

    Reviewed 25 days ago

Its been good as it is a very handy tool for investigating specific agent misbehaviors. However, it is not a tool you would rely your billable hours in as it may fail due to connectivity or other tracking issues.

    Pros

IUt is easy to check up on people and they get to see the same information I can see of them. Its also easy to manage on their side on when it should not be tracking because they are using the pc personally.

    Cons

When it comes to reporting I feel it is a bit confusing and lots of investigation is required to know why I am seeing the results I am seeing.

    Great for self-control

    Reviewed 4 months ago

I work from home for more than 3 years now. I am not self-employes, so I wanted to make sure that I am at my desk for the time I promised and that I am working productively. This tool does exactly that. In addition, finally it has easy way of adding time to projects. I would use this to calculate how much time I spend on extra projects not directly related to my daily tasks.

    Pros

It really helps me to understand did I work 8 hours today and was I not wasting time on Facebook or other things. I like the green design. It makes me tune in positive and productive.

    Cons

I would like an extended possibility to add programms, headers, meetings from outlook automatically to projects. So like marking apps as productive or unproductive, there might be option to mark them as belonging to specific project. And I would also like to have a slightly cheaper plan as even though I belong to a company I have installed and pay for this alone and use it for my home office purpose only.

"Desktime the tool of the future"

    Reviewed 24 days ago

We are reducing economic and time costs, being able to do the time registration online and automatically when turning on the computer, control of vacation periods, permits and sick leave, among others.

    Pros

we like the autonomy of the system, when it comes to starting the computer, desktime is able to start working automatically. In addition, the "private time" option is very useful, so that workers can freely review personal matters during break hours, without worrying about being "monitored".

    Cons

At first, there was resistance to the implementation of desktime by the workers, most of them complained about the alleged "invasion of their privacy", this was motivated by the screenshots made by the software. However, the company also chooses to keep the screenshots active, in order to supervise the work.
