I would NOT recommend Valant

Once the appointments are saved they become separate from the transaction so if a change is made in the appointment is is not updated in the transaction automatically.

A Very Powerful EHR

We have solved billing, claims denials, and clinical documentation problems with Valant.

Pros

We have found this EHR to be remarkably capable of creating efficiencies in both management and clinical workflows.

Cons

The system experiences typical connectivity problems but less than other EHRs we’ve used in the past.

What I think about Valant

It has the ability to have an integrated calendar (which I like) and you can scan documents to client files.

Pros

It lets you know if you haven't submitted claims for billing Can integrate billing into the software for 1 click billing of claims client portal You can create your own templates There are measures that you can have clients complete prior to being seen that helps with diagnosing.

Cons

The price. Currently, for my 1 office staff and myself. There are cheaper options out there. I have a 2 in 1 tablet and laptop touchscreen- sometimes I have to make the font tiny on my screen to fit in all their windows like when adding authorizations. (these times are few and far between though). Also on other PCs, I've had no problem.

Overpriced for an outdated, frustratingly slow and buggy system

Was hopeful but after signing on under the promise of an upgrade due 6 months after my contract started, a year later I am still waiting for said upgrade while now we are experiencing so many crashes and freezes a day, we literally don't have time to call and report anymore as it is now costing me money to use the program, staff who are now drastically impacted by them not being able to perform their job in a timely and efficient fashion, and then sit on hold for 45 minutes to report an issue that we reported numerous times without being provided an actual solution or anything that would make it worth staying with them while we are being negatively impacted on a daily basis due to these technical issues.

Pros

It had all the components I need for a large practice, billing, scheduling, note templates, cc integration, e-prescribing, reports, and reminders and some extra like a portal, although useless, measures, and the ability to have seperate locations.

Cons

It only sends an email users that they have a secure message in Valant to review if it comes from a client but not from another user in the practice. The reminders are queued up to be sent out 72 hours in advance so if clients cancel after that, they still get reminders.

Mediocre EMR with spotty customer service

Pros

Patient notifications of appointments were included in price; there was a mobile option for accessing it; the appearance was modern and nice

Cons

Reporting functions were very confusing and ambigous; costly and very inflexible with terms of agreement (e.g. couldn't reduce number of clinicians); had to go to multiple screens to try to explain billing to clients; patient portal cumbersome; no virtual paperwork options; had frequent errors in scheduling where things done just didn't "stick" in the system; customer service reps didn't always respond timely; had to pay extra every time we onboarded a therapist

Valant is a Wonderful Product!

I would like to see a Quick Books type billing program integrated with the system.

Pros

I loved the secure patient portal, the integrated scheduling, and the dashboard.

Cons

Price. I feel the whole system was great, colorful, awesome, good - even for the money. Unfortunately a lot of smaller businesses and non-profits cannot afford it even though it is a great system.

Valant crashes frequently, the reports also are difficult to run and are not easy to read.

Allow for patient balances to be turned back into insurance balances in the View/Edit Charges screen. PLEASE create an instant messenger feature in order for different users to message each other where a pop-up will come up on the screen.

Amazing Software System

We researched several software systems and decided on Valant. Claims and eligibility are done with the clearinghouse that does all processes in real time, which will increase cash flow for the business.

Pros

EMR templates designed specifically for behavioral health providers cost is reasonable compared to competitors real time claims and eligibility HIPPAA compliant messages sent to provider and patients

Cons

Clearinghouse is separate however it is top of the line and extremely efficient.

web based server - records are well organized and accessible - e prescribing is the best - scheduling and billing modules also important and work pretty well for us

can't open multiple charts at a time would like option of editing uploaded documents would like to print bills before appoitnments

This is a very comprehensive program that will meet JACHO or CARF requirements.

Pros

Attached scheduler, manages complex material well, autofills information from form to form, many assessment tools available, patient portal included, ease of setting up billing

Cons

It does not have a biopsychosocial or intake assessment document internally in the software.

Pros

The portal allows me to document effectively and efficiently- I am not completing notes after hours.

Cons

The Silverlight application limits browser compatibility. Can’t wait to see Silverlight go away next year!

-Easy to learn -Excellent Customer Service -Ability for patients to fill out assessments in a secure patient portal which routes directly to chart and ultimately to clinician note -text and voice apt reminders

Cons

-price is expensive -no customer support on the weekend (we see patient's Saturdays so that has been a problem sometimes) -change in flexibility for needing to add prescribers and clinicians between contract renewal

Valant delivered on the clinical side of the application but was not productive on the billing side.

Valant appeared to be a better program than what was actually delivered. The billing sector does not work well and caused many delays in payments.

Pros

Relatively comprehensive program overall, had appointment reminders, multiple options in documentation and connected notes through the schedule.

Cons

Customer support was not consistent, difficult to make accommodations, no ability to use your own forms, a glitch that you could not accept payments or do anything else in the system until a diagnosis was entered, billing of secondary insurances did not work.

I've looked at many EMRs, and used two enterprise EMRS. For the private practice Valant is a clear winner.

Pros

Access my medical record from any internet connected PC.

Cons

I prefer to write my notes in MS Word then paste into the Valant progress notes template.

It is customizable such that users dont necessarily need to fill in all the tabs.

Cons

To open a patients chart, one has to go to the open chart tab instead of being able to see notes by right clicking on the patients name from the schedule page.
