Having the accounting "internal" for both trust & non trust accounts is a great help in not needing to use Quickbooks, then re-enter/log the checks, costs, details.
This is the most comprehensive Legal CMS in it's price range, by far.

Worst customer service experience

Reviewed 2 years ago

Zolasuite has been, by far, the WORST customer support experience I have had. I won't get in to the shortcomings of the software in too detail, but suffice it to say, the interface is very slow, the use of the software is clunky (try getting a doc e-signed and you will see what I mean, especially compared to the ease of use that I get with CLIO, who I will be staying with now), you either have to have...

Pros

Pricing was decent. But afterwards, even pricing did not justify shortcomings in the software.

Cons

Functionality was limited. Interface was very slow. Many processes were not intuitive or easy.

Vendor response

Jim, we're very sorry to hear about your experience working with CARET Legal. We pride ourselves on delivering white-glove support along with a robust platform and we're sorry that we didn't meet your expectations. We will be sure to pass along this feedback to our team and use it to continuously improve our services and our platform.

Caret should not be in this space

Reviewed 8 months ago

Over the years, the software utility has declined.

Pros

It was a good product when there was customer support. They no longer offer decent customer support. Taking 5 days to add a new employee is inexcusable. It impedes my buisness

Cons

Customer support has been outsourced to offshore. They also started using a VoIP solution, but a cheap one making it very difficult to hear and understand that tech on the line. Moreover, they make it difficult to even reach a tech person and when you do, they are lazy and sometimes, just plain defiant. For example, I asked them to add a new employee recently, and was directed to watch videos. I replied that if I could have done it myself, I would have. They should not be in this space and I dont plan to stay with them after this.

Vendor response

Hi Gary, we're very sorry to hear that your experience with CARET Legal is not living up to your expectations. We will be sure to pass along this feedback to our team and use it to continuously improve our customer experience.

Problems Never Seem to End

Reviewed 3 years ago

Overall - Be very careful before going Zola Suite. It's not a panacea. I'm currently looking into other programs that may be a bit more expensive, simply because Zolasuite has made me lose too much client chargeable time dealing with all their random quirks. I'm a solo practitioner and, literally, time is money for me. I don't have an IT department to deal with the growing pains that Zola Suite is making their users experience.

Pros

Robust all-in-one package, which makes it very unique in the law practice management sphere. Very reasonably priced for the functionality. Relatively easy to use once you get past the learning curve. US-based support that is very responsive (more on that below).

Cons

Where do I begin?! I have had nothing but problems since the beginning - and I've only been using it for about 4 months. I prepaid for a year and now I regret it. I wanted an all-in-one reasonably priced software that includes CRM, accounting/billing, and time tracking without having to integrate with other apps. However, the program is a bit slow and clunky (I have a new laptop, so it's not the...

Vendor response

Hi Jennifer. Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're very sorry to hear about your negative experiences. We recognize that transitioning to a new platform can be challenging but we strive to make the process efficient and seamless whether you're a solo practitioner or a member of a 200-user firm. In reviewing your feedback, it seems that many of these issues could have been resolved with more comprehensive training and better communication during the onboarding process. We have shared this feedback with our dedicated onboarding and training team, and a member of our senior leadership team will be in touch to make sure you are configured for success with Zola moving forward.

Finally ... a forward-thinking, cutting edge solution combining full functionality and ease of use.

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

The email integration is a revelation. Not only does it allow me to organize all email by matter, the automatic timer that creates a time entry for every email pays for the subscription by itself. Document management and automation are both outstanding in Zola. The user interface is outstanding. Every screen is logically laid out, packed with all the information I want to see at a glance, and visually...

Cons

The process of sending an invoice could be streamlined, enabling the entire creation and delivery of the invoice from one screen (it requires a trip to the accounting tab to finish), and a send button would be nice, rather than the small share icon. Still, once you learn it, the process works as is. The client portal is new and fairly basic (with the exception of the optional smart phone app), enabling only limited document sharing, and lacks the private messaging and other functions I have found in other providers. But I think it is only a matter of time before Zola fully develops this secure communication tool. Email integration has been a bit buggy, but so far tech support has resolved any issues that cropped up.

A case management system that truly works for solos.

Reviewed 8 years ago

Zola Suites is a comprehensive case management program that is constantly improving. Its affordable, easily accessible, loaded with guides and tutorials to help us slow and technologically challenged lawyers, and the customer service is top notch. As a solo practitioner it has been difficult to find a case management software company that truly cares about your practice and that is truly there to help...

Pros

The task template which allows me to create specific templates based upon my practice and how I work versus a generic input system.

Cons

I would like to see the task template updated to automatically populate a time schedule based upon the user's creation, in which of course the user should be able to revise it as needed for each entry. I would also like to see more customized billing. The current invoices are too generic. Lastly, document assembly and a document automation component is something Zola should consider as well.

Vendor response

Thanks for the review! Invoices can be customized to add as much (or as little) detail as you would like. Our support team will contact you to help you reconfigure your current template until you are 100% satisfied. Document assembly and automation features are in development and will be rolled out later this summer. Stay tuned, you won¿t be disappointed. We are also working on updating our task templates to add more features and will reach out to you to get your input.

This is the most comprehensive Legal CMS in it's price range, by far!

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

The interface is intuitive so I can easily teach myself as I go. I like that almost every option is customizable to look and feel the way I want it to - without having jump through a zillion special hoops for the customization process. Just a click or two and I'm done.

Cons

Hmmmm, not much, really. There's a glitch with the google calendar sync where it duplicates entries too many times. But I'd rather it tell me twice than not at all! (I think this glitch is fixed now, anyway).

An all inclusive package at a great value

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

Choosing ZolaSuite was quite the process for me, but in the end I went with ZolaSuite because of the integrated email and the fact that the accounting software is included. The integration with Outlook (email and calendar) has worked out very well. I also found the software to be fairly intuitive. Customer Service has been very responsive when I've needed to contact them (usually less than 12 hrs definitely within 24). I do a number of pro bono cases and like that I can track the time and create invoices showing the time without a charge by simply checking a box.

Cons

The only thing that has been disappointing to me about the software is that due dates cannot be assigned to subtasks in the task templates, only to the completion of the task as a whole.

Zola was the answer I was looking for - big firm software functionality at a reasonable price.

Reviewed 6 years ago

Zola provides seamless integration with my existing Google Calendar and Gmail. The calendar and task management functions are robust with reminder options via Email or SMS. Zola provides big firm software functionality at an extremely competitive rate.

Pros

The seamless integration with Gmail and Google Calendar sets Zola above the competition. For anyone who currently relies on Gmail and Google Calendar Zola is a no-brainer. The calendaring features and task management tools are robust and the reminder options for SMS and Email put Zola over the top.

Cons

The e-mail association function appears to be manual only (no automatic filters/tagging option for incoming email) so the manual sorting of e-mails to associate them with files can be time consuming.

Takes some getting used to, but overall a good product

Reviewed 4 years ago

I had some difficulty with the onboarding as there was a lot of confusion as to who was doing what, but once we got through that it has been pretty smooth sailing. There are certainly some things I would like to change.

Pros

The email integration works with Gmail, not just outlook. It's visually appealing to me too, and the price is reasonable.

Cons

There are too many required fields in time entry and the dashboard is not customizable. Also, sometimes there is a lag in the email integration functions so replying to or saving an email takes longer than it should.

Peace of mind

Reviewed 7 years ago

I can remember back to 2000. Trying to get on the cutting edge was expensive! And lumpy. From that point forward I have been looking for something that would be easy to train staff to use and something that could become second nature. Zola is that something. I don't know if it is the dashboard, the color coding, or the customer service built into the platform but it is a pleasure to use. I do not feel like I am training because it has been fun to learn new ways to enter information and manage my practice. And having customer service be responsive and take part in my journey is a bonus. Overall the matter, calendar and security email are effortless.

Pros

Customer service Platform layout Granular detail in my Matter files

Quality Software that's getting better all the time

Reviewed 5 years ago

Great software at a great price with responsive service.

Pros

The best thing about the software is that it helps to capture all of my time. The integration with e-mail is a great feature that helps make sure no time is lost. I have already recommended this to colleagues.

Cons

It needs better integration with Mac. I am a Mac User and all of the plug-ins are currently PC only. I am looking forward to the time when the Mac versions get rolled out.

Best I have used so far

Reviewed 7 years ago

I have been working in legal services for 20 years and have tried many practice management platforms. Zola Suite is by far the best I have tried. Super easy to use, straight forward pricing, lots of great functions that are actually useful. I would recommend to any practitioner.

Pros

Ease of use, flat pricing that includes trust accounting.

Cons

I cannot think of any - have not run into any problems.
