Janna: I'm Janna, and I'm an owner of a company in the arts and crafts industry. And I give Square For Retail four out of five stars. Before I started using Square, we used PayPal's Here checkout system. I used a pen and a piece of paper to write down all my sales for a while. And we also used the QuickBooks Intuit system for a while. And Square is just better. It's better than all of that. So we switched over to using Square, mainly because it connected directly to our manufacturing accounting software that we use, and made it really seamless for us to enter our sales and to cash people out, no matter where we were, and have all our sales automatically logged in our accounting software, which is great. Square has so many benefits. I mean, the credit card swiper was so easy. It just made it instantly that we could take credit cards, which increased our total number of sales by a huge percentage. I don't know what it is off the top of my head, but a lot of sales that we take because we have credit cards. It allowed us to do invoicing, which we could send to people, and save all of our different products that we sell right in the interface to cash people out. And my employees can have the app on their phone so that if they're working a show somewhere else, they can use their phone or their iPad as the register to cash people out. And it's just so versatile and it's so easy and it's so cheap and you don't have to pay for any extra equipment. It's great. So we integrated Square into our business. It was really easy. The main thing that was labor intensive was adding our products into it and adding our items into the catalog one at a time. But once you set it up once, it's set up and you don't have to deal with it or worry about it. It's easy to add new items to it. And once we had it set up, it was just a matter of putting out the sticker on our table that said, we accept payments via Square. And so many people are familiar with it that they just trusted and it makes it a lot easier to do business. So if you're thinking about getting Square for your business, I highly recommend doing it. If you want an easy, affordable way to take credit cards, it makes it super easy. I recommend investing in the chip reader part of the swiper and not just the regular swiper. It cuts down on your liability as far as taking people's cards, so you can do the chip cards. That was definitely worth it. Keep your chip reader swiper thing charged. Don't leave it plugged into your equipment all the time because it will drain the battery on the swiper and your equipment. But I think that's my main drawback, why it would get four instead of five, is that you can't leave it plugged in all the time.

Chase M: My name is Chase. I am the owner of a branding and marketing firm and I give Square for Retail a four out of five. Some payment processing software that I've used in the past was PayPal, Cash App actually or even Zelle directly with my bank. PayPal's fees were just a little too steep for me and Cash App and Zelle for a professional look, it just doesn't look good to say, "Send me your payment via Cash App or Zelle." So those are some of the ones that I went with in the past and those are a couple of reasons that I went away from them, was for the professionalism. Some of the reasons why I chose Square for Retail is one, the professionalism of how it looks when you send that invoice over to a client. They have confidence that they are dealing with a true business, not just someone who's operating a quote unquote side hustle. It gives that real professional appeal. The fees are rather low, there are still fees that are associated with every transaction but they are comparatively low to other processors. Also, there are a myriad of other additional benefits with Square for Retail, such as sending over a quote. And if the client likes the quote, they can go ahead and immediately pay versus having to configure an invoice every time and going back and forth over quotes. You can send those out. Also, you could create recurring payments. So if you have a client that has you on retainer or someone who pays you monthly or bimonthly or whatever, you can set that up to automatically take those funds or charge their card or their account when that time is due that you've agreed upon. There are lots of other things, Square also now offers the ability for its vendors to sell gift cards. So it's a lot of really cool things with Square that made me go that direction. Because being able to sell your clients gift cards in this climate, especially with everything going on, is great because they may not use your service today but they may use it in a couple of months when they're able to. So those are some of the reasons that I went with Square for Retail. Integrating Square for Retail into my business was very easy. It's so easy to tell a client, "Of course, you're going to receive an invoice from me." It's branded for you, so the client isn't confused because it has your logo and everything at the bottom of your invoice. Also, installing it on my website was flawless. So my clients are actually able to check out online via my Square account. So that was super easy. It is very easy to incorporate that into your business, nothing technical at all. If you are looking to get Square for Retail for your business, I highly suggest it. If you have used PayPal or QuickBooks or any other sort of invoicing system or payment system for your clients, you will find that it integrates very well. And you are under no obligation to continue using them once you start the account. You could try it for a month, you don't like it, you prefer something else, you're not going to lose any money or anything by just giving it a try. I highly recommend it. So I hope you like it, I do give it a four out of five.

Overall great, we use Square throughout our business and it covers our bases. A few flaws that can get frustrating here and there in the matter of being able to customize things to do exactly what we need it to be, but overall it's pretty good!
We specifically use Square for Restaurants POS system for our taproom system, which also ties into our mobile payments, but we do use Square for Retail as the basis for our online ordering page through Wix, as it works best for hosting that site for orders. It works great, we can track inventory and orders and such, it does what we need it to do!
Honestly, the only thing I wish was different was that we didn't have to use Retail and could just use Restaurants for our online ordering, but the retails works for it better and it functions so it's fine.

Square has served it's purpose and opened a new way for transaction processing. Luckily there are now many other options.
Simple enough to add products and check out.
After using square POS for a few years, we switched to Shopify bc we also had an online store and needed to consolidate systems. We continued to pay for Square for a year although we were no longer using the system for anything other than to access old orders. When our office manager canceled the paid account, Square no longer allowed us to access the account at all. Our office manager spent several hours and finally got access. We were not informed that all other user accounts would be closed and that the only way to access old records would be through the owner email account. I called square to ask about being locked out of my account and the customer service rep ([SENSITIVE CONTENT]?) was incredibly rude, unhelpful, and sarcastic. I'm happy that we no longer use Square solely based on the customer service. Additionally, the processing fees went up drastically for us when we began offering one CBD product (THC free) out of several hundred products in our store.

Cost and set up were both affordable and easy, plus transactions were never an issue on any device or credit card. The processing fees were very reasonable for our use. The reporting features were very straight forward to implement in our CMS tools.
Nothing!!! Could not find an issue if we wanted to, the hardware and software worked flawlessly.

Its what we needed in a pinch to get sales orders working on the field at events. It worked well for conferences and venues.
It was easy to setup and start using when you need it. You connect it to your phone and use it as a normal POS you would in a store
Support isn't always easy to get a hold of and it wouldn't integrate it with our system. This is more for small business use and not for tracking and reporting on analytics.

We love this system and have had no issues. We've been using it for about 4 years and it has met every need, saving us time, and is cost-effective for the features it provides.
The ease of implementation of the square system was excellent. Once implemented, managing and controlling items and inventory is simple and efficient. The POS system is easy to manage and use, easy to train our staff on, and customizable for all of our needs. The reporting system gives us all the information we need to summarize our sales data, run sales tax reports, and more.
There is not much to not like. For our small business the software works wonderfully, if we had a large variety of items the POS system might get more complicated, but not for us.

Square has helped my business scale to greater heights, more than I could have imagined. The POS is a great addition. My favorite feature is the management of customers, receipts, and automated thank you messages. If I was not using Square but ran into someone using it, I would surely be jumping ship.
Square is free and easy to maneuver. With no experience, Square appointments made it easy to start my business and manage it. Customers can book on the platform and I can manage appointments and inventory, as well as run my website.
Square is easily the first choice for anyone trying to start a business. However, some features may seem a challenge to access without any guidance or guide. An example is learning about taxes being applied the first time I used the POS system. Coincidentally, the party I was conducting business with was a tax-exempt business and I had no idea how to bypass the tax.

Incredibly user friendly, nicely designed interface and overall no issues.
Square pretty much takes all the leg work out of setting up a POS system for any business, but I'll speak specifically as a small business owner. -If you're a first time small business owner, save yourself the headache and just go with Square; you might be able to get a lower merchant fees rate with another service, but then you have to deal with the hassle of setting up a separate POS register, possibly a separate app you'd have to setup on an iPad if that's what you plan to use, setting up the merchant account, etc. With Square, it's all wrapped into one easy setup. -Easy to setup on an iPad, create a catalog of items to sell and process payments -The item catalog screen is very user friendly and customizable -Doing refunds is easy -Reports are incredibly easy to run -Square integrates with QuickBooks online, so it's been seamless to link all my Square sales to my accounting books and makes my tax filings much more accurate -Creating invoices is also easy and gives a professional look to my invoice emails -Ability to create forms that require signature, so no need for another digital signature service (unless you need more details, see Cons below)
-I wish you could have the same virtual terminal on the iPad on desktop as well. There have been times when my iPad crapped out and had to use my laptop, and it's not the same experience. -If you're using the signature service for forms that you need to send out, it only records the signature itself and nothing else. Either it's a user error on my part, or they need to update it, but it needs more customization.

Auditing inventory is so easy, you can set alerts to remind you when stock gets low. I can collect money anywhere I am and online. This gets deposited in my bank account within 24 hours usually. The reports are easy for anyone to understand. I can also get a vendor sales report so I can see which of my vendors have the hottest selling items.
I love that I do not need any other applications to manage my payments and inventory. I have everything at my finger tips with this application.
I know some people complain about the service charges. 2.6% plus $.10 per transaction at the time of this review.

I am very pleased with Square overall. Compact size, quick processing, and all of my customers are comfortable using it.
There are so many great features with the Square for retail. The ease of use is at the top of my list. It hooks up with my phone and never misses a beat.
I have not had any issues using this software. Even when I dont have a signal, it keeps the transaction in que and processes it when a signal is present.

I am a mobile type business and also can easily take payment over the phone or easily swipe a card if available, without carrying around a very large terminal.
It is easy to use and I know exactly what my fees are going to be as it is not dependent on a certain type of card which may unknowingly charge me a higher rate. Overall the platform is easy to use.
I really don't have any thing bad to say about the software or platform except maybe I do wonder about if I ever have to contact customer service I have heard that is very hard to get problems addressed or make personal contact with a customer service representative.

Overall, Square for Retail is a powerful software that allows you to take sales portably with a very small footprint. However, the hardware has catching up to do.
Square easily handles transactions for our church book stall. It provides up-to-date inventory and online reporting for tax purposes. You can easily add sales, promotions, and other tailor-made functions.
What I like least about this software is the hardware. We utilize the Square Terminal, which was attractive as a portable register in that it takes credit cards via swipe and chip, but also prints receipts. The optional scanner is even nicer to use. However, for the scanner to work, the terminal must be plugged into an outlet, which robs it of its portable nature. Additionally, adding inventory via the Terminal is cumbersome and slow. Imagine typing in inventory titles using a small smart phone that is slower than a smart phone.

It easily satisfies our need for a payment processor, but we struggle to get it to do much more than that even after years of use. We've had trouble updating inventory and printing barcode labels. I'm not sure it justifies the monthly subscription price point.
Square is an easy payment processing solution that we have been able to integrate into our retail store operations. I appreciate that it can keep track of inventory, but the process of adding items can be overwhelming. It's big strength is in it's reporting functions and it's ability to easily track YoY.
We have a lot of glitches with the program, despite updates. We will have to restart and re-login. It is also difficult to add individual inventory items. Also the register display format is not customizable, you are limited to the defaults.

We chose this software because we needed a way to take credit card payments that didn't involve opening up a web browser on a computer and hand entering in numbers. We use the readers and software to take in person payments at events. This has been such a great improvement to how we used to do it. It has sped up the registration process a lot. it has also given us an easy way to take payments for t shirts and pins at events where we could only take cash previously.
This was one of the least expensive options for taking credit card payments at events. When we signed up we even got 1 credit card reader for free. (Note that you do need reader 1 fore android phones and 1 for iphones). It was very easy to sign up and we got our card readers very quickly. The software is easy to use. I like that you can have multiple users. Also, a lot of people recognize and trust square so they have no issues providing their cards for scanning.
We haven't used the service/software for a long enough time to encounter any major bugs. Some cards (older, worn down) have a harder time scanning than others but that is a card issue, not an issue with the scanner.

We have used Square to help facilitate receiving CC payments from our "customers" in both our church's coffee shop and book resource center, and it has been great! I would definitely recommend this to any church trying to open a coffee shop or book resource center of their own.
I appreciate how Square has so easily integrated into our church's in-house coffee shop and also our church's book resource center (like a small book store). Square just makes the running of our coffee shop and book resource center so EASY!
The only drawback that I can see is that, in our church, we have a population of individuals who may be unfamiliar with the idea of swiping a credit card through a device attached to an iPad... I can see how the "newness" of this tool might be daunting to some individuals (and thus potentially hinder them from using it), but on the whole, this is a very SMALL concern. So far, the "pros" have FAR outweighed the "cons"!

It's been great! No problem other than the name issue.
Super easy to use and phenomenal customer service! I've had it for 6 months and never had a problem with the software.
No cons except, there is no way to change your name with square. I got divorced and wanted to change my last name on square after I had it legally changed and they said I would have to start a new account from scratch. So now I'm stuck with that last name for my business.

Square enables me to be able to sell remote without having to add pricey equipment.
We have used Square in our retail location for over 2 years now. We also utilize the system for mobile sales. We love being able to use one system for both. Square doesn't require extensive training and is self explanatory.
I would love to be able to text our customers to broadcast announcements, sales, etc. This is currently not an option which requires us to have additional third party software.

Square is very convenient specially attending off-site events. We were able to get it up and going at any time. Other Points of Sales software is very clunky when it comes to a mobile application. Because of the versatility and ease of use, we do recommend it for small businesses.
Square is a payment processing system with supporting systems such as Point of Sale. We initially did the trial period to determine if it meets our requirements. It was very user-friendly and easy to use. The training was easy for the staff. If we had any issues, customer support from Square was always available. Sometimes we did have a short wait, but issues were always resolved.
Square didn't have a many features as other Point of Sales software. Reporting and analytics were pretty limited. The software did have some, but not as much as we needed. Support was available, but sometimes we had to wait to get help.

I use it for all my clients who want to pay for my services with a credit card. I have had no issues so far.
I liked the interface of the software. Very user friendly and easy to do transactions with. I also have used the manual entry multiple times with no problem.
I would say the only thing I dislike is the extra charge for instant deposit, that's it. Nothing else stands out to me.

Square is great because it is universally recognized and people are comfortable using it to pay now. Overall the setup has been generally easy and straightforward. I'd definitely recommend it to any small business friends.
Super easy to use. Every kind of report that you can want is available.
I wish that the fee was a bit lower. The switch to a blue tooth card reader has been interesting. 1/10 times that I try and connect it takes extra time which is a pain if the customer is there waiting.

Square was a cheap way for me to reach a larger demographic of people at the markets, it adds to my business's professionalism and I would recommend it to anyone.
I love the convenience of swiping a card, I love that it pays out quickly (far quicker than over my website) and it keeps peoples information from past square interactions they've done so you can send them a receipt.
I would love to have an offline setting so it could save the cards and charge when you reconnect. I don't always have a connection at the markets I'm working. I'm working currently with the smallest square phone connection so I also look forward to updating to the version that accepts debit cards too

Both interfaces are very easy to use. There are many features to make your business look professional, like sending receipts via email and text and asking for feedback after a transaction. Adding line items is very easy, which is convenient for businesses that are changing prices or items frequently.
As much as I love this product it could definitely still use some tweaking. The biggest complaint is the fact that you are forced to buy multiple card readers for your iPad because they stop reading cards after a while which subsequently forces you to enter the card manually which you are then charged more money for.

I love that it's so easy to send invoices in just a second! It keeps track of your clients names and client info, services, invoices etc which is such a timesaver! I can look st a glance and know what invoices have been paid and which ones need to send again.
I would love there to be a way to enter services in so you don't have to type it in each time when making an invoice.

I really like how sleek, modern, and clean this method for receiving payment works. It has a very modern GUI, with large clear numbers and values as opposed to the majority of credit card readers that have much more pixelated appearances and significantly smaller font sizes in comparison. Also, the ease of the option of signing when required with a finger on a touchscreen device is better than the alternatives available today such as signing with a physical pen or a stylus for digital screens. These features save time at checkout which in turn increases efficiency, and as my time is very valuable to me, I greatly appreciate these factors that contribute to the ease of use.
While there is not much to dislike, I have noticed that sometimes cards are not read as easily with this software at times. While this is perhaps more a function of the hardware used to swipe or scan credit or debit cards, I have noted a bit of a trend with this when using Square with certain cards while performing with other card types have been flawless. This makes me suspicious if it is related to a software issue. Otherwise, I have no complaints about Square.
