Files.com overview

What is Files.com?

Files.com is a cloud-native Managed File Transfer (MFT) and file orchestration platform that enables organizations to securely transfer, store, automate, and integrate files across systems, users, and partners. Built for enterprise workloads, it replaces legacy FTP servers and on-premise MFT solutions with an API-first platform that scales alongside growing data transfer demands.

Users access files through web, mobile, and desktop apps, while developers connect via FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, CLI, REST API, and SDKs available in multiple popular programming languages. Files.com also supports linking external cloud storage providers — including OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, Amazon S3, and Rackspace — so teams can consolidate file access across every system they already use, without migrating data away from existing providers.

Automation is built into the core of the platform. Teams can configure event-driven notifications and automated actions triggered when files are added, copied, renamed, deleted, or moved. No-code workflow builders allow non-technical users to create automation rules directly within the platform, while developers can extend functionality through webhooks, Zapier, and Amazon SNS integrations.

Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is supported through Custom Inboxes, Share Links, and Public Hosted Folders. These tools allow customers, vendors, and partners to send and receive files without requiring a Files.com account, making cross-organization file exchange straightforward and controlled.

The granular permission system ensures that only authorized users can access specific files and folders. Groups, Sub-Admins, and Folder-level Admin controls allow organizations to delegate authority and manage access at scale, reducing administrative overhead while maintaining strict governance.

Security capabilities include encryption at rest and in transit, four types of two-factor authentication, nine single sign-on integrations, and an A+ rating on the Qualys SSL grader. Internal security controls encompass background checks, penetration testing, SDLC processes, change management, and risk management programs.

On the compliance side, Files.com supports data residency across six jurisdictions — USA, Canada, UK, Australia, EU, Japan, and Singapore — along with GDPR compliance with a DPA, HIPAA compliance with a BAA, SOX compliance support, and configurable policies for sessions, passwords, content types, and data retention. These capabilities make Files.com well-suited for regulated industries including banking and finance, healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, logistics, media, and retail.

Cloud storage integrations are highly configurable: data can sync bidirectionally or one-way, and organizations can maintain their own permanent copy of anything transferred to external parties. Teams can link their own third-party accounts or connect the cloud accounts of customers, vendors, or partners for seamless data exchange.

Files.com serves IT teams, security professionals, and data engineering teams that require enterprise-grade reliability, audit logging, and compliance controls without the burden of managing on-premise infrastructure.

Key benefits of using Files.com

Centralized file access across every protocol and provider: Connect to files via FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, API, and SDKs, while linking cloud storage accounts from providers like OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, and Amazon S3 — all managed from a single Files.com interface.

Automated file workflows with no-code tools and developer integrations: Files.com triggers notifications and automated actions when files are added, renamed, deleted, or moved, with no-code workflow builders for business users and webhook, Zapier, and Amazon SNS support for technical teams.

Secure external collaboration without requiring recipient accounts: Custom Inboxes, Share Links, and Public Hosted Folders allow customers, vendors, and partners to exchange files with your organization without needing a Files.com account, keeping collaboration controlled and auditable.

Granular permissions and delegated administration at scale: Files.com's permission system lets organizations assign folder-level access, create Groups, and designate Sub-Admins, ensuring the right people access the right files while reducing the administrative burden on central IT teams.

Enterprise security with encryption, MFA, SSO, and an A+ SSL rating: Files.com protects data with encryption at rest and in transit, four types of two-factor authentication, nine SSO integrations, and a perfect A+ score on the Qualys SSL grader, backed by internal penetration testing and risk management controls.

Compliance support across HIPAA, GDPR, SOX, and six data residency jurisdictions: Files.com enables organizations in regulated industries to meet compliance requirements with built-in HIPAA BAA, GDPR DPA, configurable data retention policies, and choice of data residency in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, EU, Japan, or Singapore.

“It gets really annoying because it seems like I am always being notified when most of the time it is me deleting, renaming and I do not need a reminder.”
