Great Fundraising Giving Tool!

Pros

Recently started using the Givebutter platform. Found it pretty simple to learn. Customer service is very helpful on things that I got stuck on. I like that a donor can give in just about any form (even checks) possible and we can collect as much or as little information as we'd like. And I like the team effort.

Cons

Have to say that although I understand it takes money to make these platforms affordable for all to use, I don't like having that passed on to the donor. I do like however that we have the option to pay the fees or at least lessen them, although I certainly wish there were no fees at all.

Everything is better with butter!

Very helpful salesperson explained all the features; I'm waiting to sign up for some additional training to test out the peer to peer functionality.

Pros

What I liked most was the sales and customer support AND that I was able to get it up and running w/o incurring any cost.

Cons

That I cannot import that transaction history easily into our CRM.

Great is Getting Better Every Month

Givebutter has been a great switch for us! It is everything we were looking for, and it doesn't cost us an arm and a leg. It integrates onto our Wordpress website wonderfully, and our donors love it too! We just did a $75,000 fundraiser through them, and it was a great experience.

Pros

I love Givebutter, and I love that they are constantly adding new features each month based on current users' experience and suggestions. This platform has everything we were looking for: auctions, peer-to-peer fundraising, event tickets, and so much more!

Cons

With it being a newer platform, they are still adding features, so things that we used in our old platform is not hear. Like the ability to set up custom filters. We'd like to be able to find donors who have lapsed in giving and their last date of donation.

Love it!

We have had a wonderful experience with Givebutter. It has had everything we have needed in a platform (and many bonus tools for us!), save us staff time, we have seen increases in donors covering their own credit card fees, and we have had helpful chat conversations with the support team through the chat feature when we have questions/needed a bit of extra assistance. Overall, its easy to use and one can learn to navigate it fairly quickly!

Pros

Givebutter was a gamechanger for our small nonprofit. It has increased our staff efficiency. We have seen an increase in donors willing to cover their own credit card fees which is like adding an extra donation to their gift! I really appreciated the support and helpfulness of the Support Team through the chat feature when I needed a bit of extra assistance when we were initially learning to use the platform. Overall it was a smooth and easy to navigate transition. We have felt like this platform has been a value-add to our nonprofit and our fundraisers!

Cons

I was hoping to have a feature that would allow us to add custom fields to to tickets. However, I reached out to the support team and they were very helpful! Needed features/tool improvements can be added to a list and users can vote on the ideas; I find it helpful to have the sharing tool of ideas and a way that I can upvote/request features. Gives me hope the platform will just keep on improving!

First foray into online giving platform--so easy to use!

We are delighted that donors can cover the cost of fees if they decide too (and we can opt to ask them to or not). I am finding it super easy to use and if I have a question, I can get an answer pretty quickly!

Pros

GiveButter is straightforward and easy to use! It's also flexible in that you can start out using it for fee (aside from fees). I like that we can set up easily new campaigns and track donations to them. The customer support is great and very responsive (even without the premium account). It has allowed our organization to try out text to give without investing in a contract and we have been using it for our regular donations as well because it's so easy and we can ask donors to cover the fees if they want (and most of them do!).

Cons

Where you make changes to your campaign/settings-- isn't super intuitive to me (I hunt around on where to find what I need to tweak). If the payout history could get provide detailed reports that would help out accounting (it's in the works, I believe?)

A Great Switch

We have been very pleased with Givebutter and their openness to update/upgrade their platform based on feature requests of the non-profit users.

Pros

The user interface with Givebutter is much better than the previous online donation form we were using. We like that it is a step-by-step click through opposed to a long form to fill out. Having the ability to run an online donation and an event page in the same system is helpful to our team to not have to learn two different types of platforms.

Cons

Givebutter promotes itself to be free to the non-profit, and the donor pays the platform fees. We would like to be able to choose to pay a monthly price to pay some of the platform fees on our own (as we know it is part of doing business) instead of passing them on to the donor every time.

Challenging software for auction event

I was so optimistic, but it fell very short in overall use during and after the event.

Pros

The best part was the lack of cost. It was free.

Cons

There's a ton of room for improvement for using this as an auction platform. Bidders and items need to be able to be sorted on the dashboard. Registering guests was cumbersome - they had to enter their info at least twice. Listing items was okay, but the display sheets that GB generates don't include photos, so I had to edit EVERY SINGLE DISPLAY SHEET to make it visually appealing/include a photo. Time consuming.

Givebutter is a low-cost, easy to use platform for handling online fundraising

Great, it's flexible and we've been able to re-use past pages or forms as the basis for new fundraisers and just update them to reflect what we're doing, which saves time. It also is a great tool in terms of collecting donor info for CRM.

Pros

Low-cost and low platform fees, accessible and easy to set up brand new fundraising pages and forms. Good integration access with CRMs and customizable reporting for reconciliation. Support is responsive and helpful, and new features are continually rolled out.

Cons

It would be nice to be able to set up a single page with multiple sub-fundraising forms with in it for different revenue streams, especially when it comes to a single event with different fundraising options or a series of related events that it would be best for donors to navigate from one central page where they could see all of the different options available, and donations/purchases would be able to go to different accounts to make reconciliation much easier.

Great Price, Great Product

Givebutter does everything that I need it to. I can process donations for our ongoing donation page and for specific events like Giving Tuesday. I am also able to use it for our annual fundraiser by selling vendor booths & tickets. And all of this for free. It's perfect!

Pros

It's free which is great for me because I work at a small nonprofit and we have a huge upswing in money coming in for our annual Fundraiser in August, then the rest of the year there is little activity. Paying for a product all year when it's really mostly used a few months out of the year didn't make sense. Givebutter being free is the biggest Pro!

Cons

It was little hard to import donors and I never figured out how to put in past donations to get our records all in one place, but I was able to tag people as having donated in the past so that worked well enough.

Always Recommending

Pros

Having no up-front cost removed the fear of using this product. We searched countless donation processors and CRMs and it was very difficult for me to get our team to commit to any of them that came with an up-front cost. This removed those barriers and gave us a good level of customization for a system that we never had to put a dime into (either donors covered the fee or the incredibly minimal fee was taken out before it came to us)

Cons

I wish there was a volunteer event style function built in.

Givebutter for Gala Event

We used Givebutter for ticketing and other "purchases" for a gala event. It met our basic needs and we could use it's peer-to-peer capabilities to allow audience vote-by-donation for our event's competition that we could not do with last year's solution (Ticketspice), but the overall experience was frustrating. Features were limited. Fees were high and tip requests annoying. Reporting and data management was insufficient.

Pros

We needed the ability to sell (and comp) tickets (with different pricing tiers), to send tickets electronically, check-in guests (preferably with a quick ticket scan but also by name), and allow audience voting during our event. Givebutter delivered all of these capabilities. The event/campaign could be set up and managed outside of our CRM (by a volunteer who then didn't need full access to sensitive data) and integrated (limited) with our CRM. We also sold online tickets to the event and streamed it on Givebutter (although that was a complete hack)

Cons

Although the product satisfied our needs, there were many small frustrations and overall it felt like an incomplete product. Issues included:- High fee rate (standard credit card rate, although our actual fees seem higher) for non-profit use.- Additional "tip" to Givebutter both on the user side (can be removed if you pay even higher fees) and when making payout transfers is frustrating and not non-profit...

Amazing software for small nonprofits

Amazing experience with Givebutter and I would 10/10 recommend them to small to mid sized nonprofits looking for a comprehensive fundraising solution! I don’t recommend it for larger organizations that need more custom solutions and robust reporting.

Pros

The price is unbeatable — it’s free, other than fees that can be passed to the donor! Not only is it free, it’s intuitive and powerful. It’s better than some of the paid tools I’ve used. The customer service is fantastic and they are always adding new features. Free SMS?! Such a bargain and has been so useful to our organization.

Cons

The email functionality isn’t great because the email design/template isn’t very customizable. However, it’s great for just transactional emails, and anything more sophisticated I use another email platform for. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the way the plain donate forms looked, but they’re updating those too!

User-friendly and always evolving

It has been great. The customer service team is understanding and quick to respond. If there's something I ask for that isn't an option, they will add it to their list of requests and usually get to it in about 6 months or so depending on how popular of a request it is. I can't wait to see what they come out with next.

Pros

Love that it is easy to use for admins and donors. The Givebutter team is so open to feedback and makes frequent updates that help us fulfill our need better

Cons

They automatically add a 5% tip to every donation unless you opt to turn it off, in which case you would absorb the cost as an organization. It's definitely the more feasible choice to have it turned on, but beware if your donors don't notice it, they might come back to you very unhappy...

We enjoyed using this platform. It was very easy to use and we loved that donors had the option to donate but were not required.

Pros

Give butter is a lot cheaper than other platforms which is very important for us when we fundraise. We need our funds to go directly to our schools and not to outside costs. The live display was a great feature to have in our front offices on display and helped keep the fundraiser enthusiasm up. Reports were also easy to pull.

Cons

In the spring I use booster and that platform allows students to make a profile and have donations come in through their personal link. On the back end, for me it is very helpful because I can see the amount the class raised and the amount the students raised individually as well as who are participating. With this site I was able to create a mandatory box to ask donors who they were donating for but I had to go back in on my end and create a separate spread sheet to organize this information. It is very time consuming.

Free Platform not so Free, but enables us to do many things we couldn't before

Customer service is excellent! Whenever we have questions, they are answered in a very responsive way.

Pros

We have used Givebutter less than 6 months. The best thing we use so far is the ability to email tickets to event purchasers with a QR code to scan and admit them to a concert. We used to print out list of ticket purchasers and check them off a list when they arrived.

Cons

What I discovered is that for events, although we sign no contracts and paid no money to use the platform, Givebutter charges a fee of from 1%-5%. We also chose this platform because it does enable users to have an on-line auction. Gala tickets and auction fees are going to make this a very expensive platoform, but hopefully, after our event is over (March 2024), we will see how much of these fees donors pay and how much the platform actually costs.

Wonderful price for nonprofits

Pros

I love that it has a great interface for social sharing and interaction. We have loved the main page and having the tracker for our fundraiser and donations. We are so happy it's free for us to use, and offers for donors to cover transaction fees. Nearly everyone does that and they save us so much money in fees that stays in our fundraiser.

Cons

There seem to be many intuitive features that just aren't there. As we go about doing things and look for options, it seems we always have to find some funky workaround. For example, initiating an email to people who buy tickets to send them an access code. Or wanting to have a main fundraiser page that tracks everything but isn't always associated with a specific event because we are in between events. Or wanting to sell products for the fundraiser that have to be set up as tickets

Not as customized as some other donation platforms, but they’ve been making changes AND the value still outweighs this negative to our organization.

Easy To Use/Low Overhead

We had to change the way we were accepting online donations due to a change in what our parent organization was requiring in terms of security documentation. And, we needed to do it very quickly. GiveButter was able to provide the necessary documentation we needed for the "higher ups" and was very easy for me to get set-up and working.

Pros

Love how easy it was to create and implement an online donation campaign.

Cons

No disappointments at this stage, but we have only used it for accepting online donations.

Easy to use platform for fundraising!

We will definitely keep Givebutter in mind for future fundraising campaigns.

Pros

We did a lot of research before setting up a Givebutter platform and we appreciated that Givebutter is 1) free to use 2) has a silent auction feature that does not cost extra and 3) has great customer service. The campaign page is well designed - love the campaign updates where donors can leave notes and attach gifs! So far we have not had any trouble with payment processing so our people are happy.

Cons

My organization is fiscally sponsored by a nonprofit organization so we had to set up a beneficiary relationship so that our fiscal sponsor receives the funds raised on our behalf. This process was more time consuming and gave us more administrative labor to set up the campaign.

Total System Failure - We lost money thanks to GiveButter!

As a small nonprofit struggling to stay on our feet, we lost hundreds of dollars in potential donations--along with experiencing deep embarrassment at our event--due to GiveButter's admitted mobile platform glitch where our guests were not able to bid live at our event. We had a $725 piece of artwork that went for $250 due to the inability of people at our event to bid live. A river rafting package...

Pros

Not much. Set-up is not intuitive, and as a non-profit, there was a long and convoluted process to get connected with Stripe.

Cons

Our small nonprofit organization held a long-awaited silent auction using GiveButter's Auction campaign set up. Everything leading up to the event worked as expected, however, when our patrons accessed GiveButter live during the event, a back-end glitch prevented ANY bidding. Given that it was a Saturday evening, there was NO ability to reach a support person to rectify the situation live, so we ended up losing hundreds of dollars. This event was attended in person by more than 100 donors and not a single guest was able to place a bid because of this account loop malfunction. EXCELLENT CROWDFUNDING RESOURCE!

Excellent servicing of donations, no cost except for our IT people to personalize the page, and donors found it simple and easy to use.

Pros

The ease for donors to complete the required information, the absence of a fee, customer service.

Cons

That we didn't receive any merch for advertising their products except for a couple of stickers.

Givebutter Helped Get Our Nonprofit Running Smoothly

Overall Givebutter has been a great addition to our non-profit, allowing us to replace an expensive Wordpress plugin with a fully featured platform that allows us to track donors, donations, and all kinds of data easily.

Pros

I liked the ease of use of Givebutter. The UI/UX is fantastic and intuitive. I was up and running with my first donation form in a matter of minutes and Givebutter replaced a dedicated donation plugin on our website.

Cons

Personally, the name Givebutter, is the only thing I would change. It's a goofy name to say to people when you're trying to ask for a donation or explain the system you want them to interact with. More than once I have received funny looks when saying the name. I wish we could initiate a payout from the mobile app, instead of having to log in to the web version. I suppose this may be a security "feature", but it is sometimes an inconvenience.

Easy, intuitive setup and use

Pros

The tipping point for our organization to use Givebutter was definitely the price (free) and the option it gives donors to pay for the processing fees, so the organization gets more of the donation, instead of part going to those fees. After choosing Givebutter, the good aspects continued with intuitive campaign setup, and easy transfer of funds. It was also nice to be able to add donors on the "back end" who had given in person, but whose donations still helped move the "thermometer."

Cons

It would be nice to have the ability to feature more photos and videos on the campaign page, instead of one photo.

Everyone should use Givebutter!

I would highly recommend Givebutter to anyone looking for an easy to use and engaging fundraising platform. It's especially great for college student organizations. My student organization has used Givebutter since the beginning and we have seen them continue making updates and improvements to make it even better. PFTK loves Givebutter!

Pros

Givebutter is an easy to use platform that is fun and engaging, especially for college students. What first drew us to Givebutter was that they keep fees super low, which isn't found on any other platforms. We also love the team fundraising option and your members can even personalize their page. The new event feature for selling tickets is a plus. They also have excellent customer service! The team really makes it personal and you can always get in touch in a timely manner.

Cons

I can't think of any. They are always making improvements. The Givebutter team is very open to feeback and will do everything they can to make your experience better.
