Hourglass AI is a cloud-based, AI-driven legal timekeeping platform built for law firms that bill time to clients and submit invoices subject to outside counsel billing guidelines (OCGs). The software automatically captures attorney work activity across email, documents, calls, and legal research as it occurs, drafts complete time entries with matter assignments, billing codes, and hours, and checks every narrative against client OCG rules before submission. No entry reaches the billing system without explicit human approval, and no workflow change is required from attorneys.

The platform integrates with Microsoft 365, legal research tools, communications tools, document tools, and existing law firm time and billing systems, delivering finished, guideline-compliant entries directly to the firm's billing system with no re-keying. Firms can upload an outside counsel guideline and convert it into a proposed rule set, which a designated reviewer must verify and approve before activation. The compliance engine flags issues including block billing, prohibited activities, narrative deficiencies, incorrect task and activity codes, and minimum increment violations, and provides explanations and suggested corrections for each flag.
