Yammer is an enterprise social network with a full range of features to improve company-wide communication. Yammer allows you to create groups, providing a collaborative workspace for teams to organize project deadlines, share files and gather feedback. You can use Yammer to identify experts in the company and find the relevant people within the Member Directory. You can set up a company profile with a photo, basic info and and information on your skill set.

Yammer can be used as an instant messaging device, with a place to conduct private conversations among 2 or more people. You can see who is online at any time and use the @mention function to loop in more people to the conversation. The Yammer inbox provides a place to store and organize all your communications. Follow all your @mentions, group announcements, conversations and private messages. The Priority Messages tool allows you to deal with the most important communications first.

Yammer was pretty amazing when it came out but has since become to much like an enterprise feeling product. My team doesn't want to spend the day in a sharepoint like experience. We tried other products like podio but ended up using HALL.com, highly recommend it

This is a great collaboration tool! Basically I chose Yammer because the basic plan is free and I wanted my social media team to talk more about work and their projects. And it worked... Now they use Yammer to post microblogging messages and I think the overall collaboration got better. It´s fun!
