“Due to a gap in the corporate-provided scheduler, we moved to use Sling as a temporary fill-in to make scheduling easy and accessible for our employees. Frankly, I wish we could go back to using Sling and even my employees say so. The ease of drag-and-drop shift templates and the full-featured functionality of the platform is much easier than the sluggishness and complexity of certain major corporate scheduling systems. For employees their schedules are easy to access, easy to interpret, and for the schedulers the system is easy to learn and use.”

“Scheduling is easy. The ability to make templates help. I love being able to move the shift templates around. The repeat option is great. I like that I can color code positions and know exactly the position I am scheduling. I enjoy all aspects of Sling scheduling.”

Mobile access

Reviewers indicate that Sling's mobile access is valuable for employees to check schedules, clock in/out, and manage availability on the go. They find it helpful for supervisors to oversee remote workers without constant check-ins. However, users report limitations and errors in the mobile app compared to the desktop version, noting delays in notifications and a less intuitive interface. Despite these issues, they appreciate the convenience of accessing schedules and making real-time updates from their mobile devices. Of the 29 Sling users who gave detailed accounts of their use of Mobile Access, 93% rated this feature as important or highly important.

“We have several satellite locations where only one or two employees are actively working at any given time. The mobile access provided by Sling lets us supervise their time without dedicating hours each week to "check in" on each site. ”

“This is a major downfall of the software. The mobile app is highly limited compared to the desktop app, and there's several opportunities to make errors when using the mobile version. In addition - there is a notable delay in notifications.”

“Despite the desperate cheerleader narratives about every, single one of their features (we get it, it's cool guys), some of their offerings really are innovative and a welcome addition to business management software that you can't find in any of their competitors (geofencing clock in/out is possibly the best thing I've ever heard), their costs are the lowest I've ever seen and their easy to navigate platform is the most comprehensive I've ever found.”

“I like the features, the interface, and the pricing model. If there's any con at all, it's that Sling can give information so freely that it at times becomes redundant.”

Q. What is Sling used for?

Sling is a staff scheduling and communication software for businesses where employees work in shifts. The software allows managers to assign shifts and tasks to employees across multiple work sites, using a single shared calendar. Sling is built around four central features, including tasks, shifts, messages and newsfeed, and allows managers to coordinate all scheduling tasks on one platform. Managers can create shift schedules, manage shift trade and time-off requests; chat with employees and share photos, links and videos; post information and updates to a company newsfeed, and create and assign tasks to employees. Shift templates can be saved and reused any number of times, saving time for scheduling managers. Within the template, data can be filtered by date, position or department to find out the total number of employees assigned to a particular task or department. Employees can submit time-off and shift trade requests via the employee portal, where they're sent to the location manager for approval and re-assignment to other staff members where necessary. Users can create to-do lists and tasks, then assign these to a single employee or a group of employees. Users can set task timelines which generate automatic SMS or email reminders a few days before the deadline. Employees can send messages, work files, photos, videos and links to each other via Sling, as well as search for past conversations using keywords. Retail and restaurant outlets that have used Sling include Subway, Aveda, The UPS Store, Applebee’s and Securitas.
