How we picked the 3 top rated products

We chose the high-performing solutions on this list based on verified user ratings on our site. Depending on available data, qualifying products either had to be among the most user-reviewed or the most searched-for products in the contractor management software category. They also needed to have sufficient reviews about document management, have a minimum user rating of 3 out of 5 for that feature, and show evidence of U.S. market presence. We then added a distinction for the product with the highest rating for document management based on our proprietary ratings and reviews. Sponsorship or client status has no influence on the selection of these products, but it may impact the order in which products appear.

User insights about the document management feature

Reviewers indicate that Procore's document management is highly effective for organizing and accessing project-related documents. They appreciate the centralized system for storing waivers, change orders, submittals, and drawings, which improves quality control and efficiency. Users find it easy to upload, download, and track documents, with unlimited storage space being a significant advantage. They report that the tool's organization and hyperlinking capabilities are beneficial for managing project history and making quick decisions. They also value the ability to customize folder structures to meet company needs.
“Procore is one of the best tools we've come across for project managers to track the flow of paperwork behind the construction. The organization and hyperlinking between the drawings set and the RFIs was extremely helpful when change orders came up or project history had to be reviewed.”

User insights about the document management feature

Users report that Contractor Foreman's document management is convenient for keeping project documents organized and accessible. They appreciate the centralized storage and easy access to files, change orders, and daily logs. However, reviewers indicate that the system can be difficult to navigate, with challenges in organizing and finding documents after uploading. They find the drag-and-drop functionality lacking and note that certain edits can only be made from specific locations. They value the unlimited storage and the ability to share documents easily, despite some inefficiencies.
“The files and photos feature is by far the least user friendly. It is pretty difficult to move files around, rename them, view them on phone, etc. Do not love that certain items can only be edited from certain places. It just seems overly complicated. It would be much simpler to have a drag and drop feature like most other file storage systems rather than having to delete and re upload if a file ends up in the wrong place. I'd also prefer to have a previous image rather than just a PDF to quicker recognize files while out in the field. If the service isnt great, my guys have a difficult time opening files. ”
