Google Docs: Documentation for your expanding team

Reviewed 2 months ago
Pros

It is one of the best tools for individuals to start documenting for their clarity of thought. The barrier to start documenting is very low. You can just type in "docs.new" in the URL bar to get started. Very easy to collaborate with others, asynchronously chat and form an enhanced version of the doc on the go. Version control feature is great too in case there are any mistakes.

Cons

While it is great for individuals to document, it is not so great for teams to have it as a knowledge best to disseminate its tribal knowledge or best practices or team culture etc. Something that you would want for any new hires to get a grasp on very quickly. Notion and Atlassian are much better in the document organisation bit. Similarly you cannot draw block diagrams. Neither can you in Notion. You often have to rely on 3rd party vendor, "draw.io" when documenting schema designs, etc. Atlassian is your go-to tool for such requirements.

The best cloud based text editor software ever and I really like that it's free so anyone or business can use. I like that I can access my files from anywhere. I also like the files management features like naming files, organizing and search.

Pros

- Ease of use - File sharing - Collaboration tool - Supporting MS and popular files format - Activities history - Spelling & grammar correction - large clouding storage for the free version - Product cost is affordable

Cons

- Icons are too small and always I hit any of them by accident, need to be little bigger - Editing features are limited - It lacks a lot on smartphones

A great word processor for generating, customizing and sharing documents.

Reviewed 15 days ago

Overall the experience has been exceptional. There are no cons that feel absolutely constricting in a way that seriously affects my desire to continue using the software. There are so many useful plugins available as well that can help to alleviate some of the softwares limitations.

Pros

I love that Google Docs is completely Free and is still a robust word processor that competes with and often outperforms its expensive competitors. I also love that is entirely web-based. I can access my documents on a whim from any device, at anytime as long as there is an internet connection. Finally I love how it integrates with the rest of the Google workspace online applications. The apps communicate back and forth really well and allow for endless possibilities to support business and personal activities.

Cons

What i like least about Google Docs is it's file management system. I would love to see my Google drive folders on Google Docs and be able to drag and drop files and explore folders from within the Docs app.

Google Docs is my Go-To Document Creation Tool

Reviewed 2 months ago

Overall as a small business, Google Docs does the job for me. I've had to use other programs to fill in the gaps that Google Docs left open, but I've used this software for over ten years, and it's still my preferred document editor.

Pros

I love how Google made it easy to collaborate with others simultaneously on the same document. Document sharing is also a breeze. And the software is FREE. There are a variety of templates to choose from, or you can create a new document from scratch. You can even work on documents on your tablet or phone with the mobile app.

Cons

Google Docs doesn't have the best presentation program. If that's what you're working on, you're better off using Microsoft Powerpoint. I'd like to see more import and export options. Probably the worst problem with Google Docs is if you're creating a lot of content or writing books, you're going to run out of free space fast. You're only allowed so many free GB of space across all of your Google products, including Gmail, so if you're going to need lots of space to save docs, be aware of the pricing on that.

Google Docs: One of the best things going for online word processors.

Reviewed 2 months ago

My overall experience with Google Docs has been nothing but great. I have been able to accomplish a lot of my assignments at my job with the use of this software. I will be recommending this to anyone who is looking for a low to no cost word processor.

Pros

Collaborations are one of the biggest pros about this software. One copy and one copy only of a file is available and users can share this one copy, in real time simultaneously, and they can add modifications, update, and key in some data simultaneously as well. Any sort of document modifications are automatically traced with editor and time information. This is really cool because it allows you to...

Cons

The only thing I feel that could be improved is probably the way that they go about the printing since it's not exactly straight forward like it is in Microsoft Word. Just a tad bit more complex but nothing too serious. Other than that I have no other issues with Google Docs.

Functional and easy to use, but lacking in features

Reviewed 5 months ago

Google docs did serve its intended purpose successfully (document generation and editing). We were able to produce professional documents, easily store and share them, all for free. We were also able to collaborate remotely with ease, saving time and improving our productivity.

Pros

The main pro is that this is a Google product, that means it's going to be easy to use for most people. Like other Google products, it can be synced with your account and accessed from all of your devices. It's also easy to use with Google drive. Sharing from Google docs is easy which aids in productivity. I love being able to search Google without leaving Google docs too, that's so helpful! The price is another big pro. There's no question that Microsoft word is better software but Google docs is a functional solution for people who need access to free document generation and editing.

Cons

Google docs needs more templates and more options across the board! Again Google docs is functional but it's lacking in advanced features. The presentation program is very limited and does not meet our needs at times.

A good text processor for high collaboration work

Reviewed 7 months ago

I started using Google Docs when I worked on a company dedicated to creative services. All scripts and writing was through Docs because it allowed us to make edits, place notes, see revision history, etc. All that during chat and meetings, saving a lot of time. I normally use Docs from the Chrome browser and also from the iPad App, which works great too. Another plus is the fact that you can work offline and your text will be saved locally, and then synchronize with the cloud as soon as you have an internet connection. Highly recommended if you're mostly a Google environment user and don't like the Microsoft Tools. It's cheaper too.

Pros

The fact that it's an online text processor, but you can also keep working without connection if you install the right Addon. All wihtout the need of another program install in your computer

Cons

Not all browsers work good, since it's designed to work on Chrome. And sometimes some Chrome updates might affect the stability

Best Free Documentation Software... Hands Down

Reviewed 7 months ago
Pros

I love the fact that all the Google products are free. They have figured it out. I am not sure how they make money on it but it works well for my company and did since the beginning. I used Google Docs to catalog inventory, take dynamic notes with other employees on the same task and so much more. I just could not find any other alternative that has such value for free. It is truly an amazing tool.

Cons

It seems like it was missing deeper features that I rarely used, such as things I am not even sure what they are called. There is little that I dislike about Google Docs. I almost feel like it is "too simple." Like there should be more of a menu bar like Microsoft Word. It just doesn't allow for much deeper editing, like writing a book. I am currently writing a book and opted not to use Google Docs because I wanted deeper features like text wrapping and to be able to zoom out and see multiple pages at once, like I can do in Apple's, Pages.

Daily necessary app for documentations

Reviewed a year ago

In one word I can say, it saves my time, I can easily create document files and start work from anywhere, by using the autosaving option, I never have to worry about saving, besides I can easily able to use from any device, collaboration with my team mates is very usefully to me. all documents can easily share with my group members. Integration with other Google products and 3rd party ap saves my time, which increases productivity.

Pros

Basically, Google DOCs is a Free tool, unlike Microsoft office can use it from anywhere, Beside it did not cost me any money. Real-time collaboration and syncing are very perfect from my end, any teammate can also work at the same time with us. Saving the changes is automatic, the chance of losing data is not here. I can easily access my documents from any remote place with my mobile and laptop. Software integration with other Google products is a productive option for us.

Cons

Comparing with MS Word, Google Docs has some missing features option, it very hard to create in Google docs, and all the icons in Docs is little small, For the first couple of time its not ideal for me. After using some time I get used to it.

A Recommendable Software

Reviewed a year ago

Google docs ease my job when it comes to documentation. It saves a lot of time as the features made every changes I want possible.

Pros

Google Docs allows you to create files in a way similar to those that uses Microsoft but would still cost you nothing. It provide great comfort for those who need to bring a large number of files as it can be access anywhere or through any device without even carrying a single flash drive. Editing through phone is also made possible through this software which saves so much time as final touches were only the thing that must be done in a laptop or computer. Changes made were also saved automatically so worrying about crashes of the device or other interruptions were lessen. Google Docs were a go-to software when it comes to team projects as it allows sharing of information or documents in real time and with less hassle for parties involved.

Cons

None. This software is by far the most recommendable one as it have features that will make everyone's job a lot easier than they think it was. It a one stop software for every documention works.

Google Docs, Better than the Rest

Reviewed 2 years ago

My overall experience with Google Docs has been very very positive. I don't think we will be switching any time soon!

Pros

Google Docs provides an experience like no other. As most people are concerned, Google is pretty much integrated into everything we do in today's society. Google Docs allows my company to deploy documents and important media to our clients without an issue. Theres no other company I would trust with my day-to-day operations.

Cons

What I did not enjoy and least like about Google Docs is the customer support. Customer support is usually outsourced to a third-party vendor which incurs delays in responses. I wish they would address this and add more support personnel, but for the cost, you cant beat it.

Google Docs: The one for most people!

Reviewed 2 years ago

Ultimately, Google Docs is the best free word processor that you can get online and it complements other G Suite applications. It comes with numerous elegant designs as well as exceptional collaboration functionality. All of this comes at the small cost of a few features such as endnotes in Microsoft word, but I suspect that most people didn't use them in the first place. I certainly didn't!

Pros

Google Docs is the most powerful online word processor available at the moment. As it is an online word processor, it is extremely easy to access and the overall design is very intuitive. It is also completely free and syncs with all other G Suite applications such as Slides and Sheets, and can all be found seamlessly on Google Drive. As every Gmail account comes with 15 GB of free storage, it would...

Cons

Because Google Docs is a web-based word processor it is slightly less powerful than other desktop-based word processors such as Microsoft Word. For example, google docs still lack, however, it still has an impressive feature set and is more often than not sufficient for businesses. Another slight disadvantage is that you can only access it on the web and for some people that prefer using desktop applications, this could be annoying. Some companies may also consider it unsafe and insecure to keep important documents on an online cloud system such as Google, which could go down at any time. However, this is exceptionally rare as Google has invested billions in its infrastructure and spend a lot of time optimising such software.

In simple words, I must say that this tool is recommendable for every person who has to create a document of any type. I would suggest everyone, give it a try. I am sure, you will love it.

Cons

Okay, I love the tool very much. I will also share some drawbacks with you guys too. But, they are not very critical issues compared to its benefits. Here, they are- 1. Most of the problems I have faced with this tool is about the internet connection. If you have a good internet connection then the performance will be awesome. But, the connection is poor then you will get very poor performance 2. You can share the access of the doc files with the users who have Gmail account, otherwise, it cannot be done 3. What I like best about Google Docs is the straightforwardness part of the product. In particular, I am an extremely huge devotee of the way that the format is exceptionally simple to get a grip of in any event, for the individuals who are simply beginning utilizing the product. Pros

A portion of the issues that I am explaining with Google Docs incorporate synergistic failures and costs related with colleague travel to chip away at a specific record. As referenced already, this product permits all gathering individuals, expecting they have a Google account, to take a shot at a record progressively without there being any need to head out to a solitary area. This spares everybody...

Cons

Google Docs likewise permits various clients to alter exactly the same report in a concurrent way from a huge number of gadget types, regardless of whether it be a PC, work area, tablet, or even telephone. Up to an individual has a Google record and they are welcome to alter the archive by the record maker, cooperative collaboration turns out to be proficient and helpful as each colleague can be in their own distant area and work on a similar report progressively. The entirety of this is without referencing that for most clients the administration will be free, (except if you are dealing with an enormous measure of records and you need more distributed storage space, in which case there is a generally little cost to pay).

Best Solution for Collaborative Document Creation

Reviewed 2 years ago

It's fantastic. Would recommend to anyone.

Pros

The simplicity of Google docs sets it apart from the rest. It is so easy to use. The layout is easy to grasp, and the tools are easy to find. The software is comparable to the much more expensive Microsoft Word, BUT has the added benefits of automatic saving and collaboration. I sometimes forgot how frustrating it used to be when I hadn't saved a document for a while in Microsoft Word, and my computer...

Cons

The pros greatly outweigh the cons here, but one down side is that in order for your work to automatically save, you must be connected to the internet. If you are not, you cannot even make edits to your doc. Secondly, I have noticed that people who do not have a google account can have trouble accessing the doc. To get around this, most of the time you can just download and email the doc, but if it is a really big file it may not be able to send over email.

I use it a lot, I really like it, I can have my documents everywhere, which is VERY usefull, I can share them with other people and I don't need to have my computer with me to do that, or to edit a file. Really good app!

I love how you can work with other people on the same document. Even at the same time. That is absolutely great, and it has saved me a lot of time. I make summaries with friends to study then from there, I make things for the university with them and we don't have to be uploading the file updated all the time. This is a feature that gives Google docs a huge advantage over other options.

Cons

The first one is that the last time I created a file, I needed to share it with some friends, so I sent them the link and made it open for everybody so that I wouldn't have to receive an email later to allow every one of them in. Google Docs Review - Best software to share data easily

Reviewed 3 years ago

I have been using Google Docs for ages, probably since it's inception. I like the new features they include regularly. It can be used as an official intra-office software by small companies and self employed people like me. My overall experiences with the software is very satisfactory. Excellent!

Pros

1. Ease of Use. Just click on Google Docs and a very proficient editor opens up. It is more or less like word. But, data stored here can be shared with several people. I am a web content writer. It often write my content in Google Docs and share it with my clients through the Get Link option. I add different clients for different projects and share data with them effortlessly. No more worrying about...

Cons

1. It is a bit hard to understand in the beginning. The layout is more or less similar to word. But, the sharing options took some time to figure out. But, they are quite easy and Google had provided useful videos on using them. Likewise a few activities like language options, downloading various other format files into google docs seemed tricky at the beginning. New users can easily get overwhelmed and switch back to good old word document. 2. Google docs come with loads of better features than Word like direct facility to publish to web, easy formatting and adding shortcut to the drive. But, many are not aware of such facilities. More advertisement videos will help.

Life changing for collaboration, somewhat limited for Power Users

As I mentioned, the collaboration aspects are amazing. I genuinely could not run my non-profit without this. Now, I know that with Office365 you can work online, but in mid 2018 at least when I last tried to use it, I just laughed (then cried). It really felt that Word was designed to work offline, and they were bolting on the online version to keep up.... yep, that's probably true. Whereas Docs was...

Pros

Collaboration: in Google Docs this is amazing. If you've only ever used MS Word or another stand alone word processor it is hard to comprehend just how fantastic it is to be able to work with others on a document like you can in Docs. You can literally all just log in via a browser and work simultaneously. As someone who works remotely it is fantastic to be on a web conference and all have the file...

Cons

About the only thing that has ever really frustrated me about Docs is that I can't do more advanced formatting. Google Docs Replaces Office 365 (if you can handle the initial transition)

Reviewed 3 years ago

Google Docs replaces all lightweight usage of Word, Excel etc. However, if your company heavily relies on Excel it'll be difficult to convince the power users to switch. Sheets has calculation limitations with very large data sets. It's an easy replacement for 99% of use cases for Word with all the advantages of easy sharing within a G Suite environment.

Pros

Our company completely switched off of using Office 365. There was a transition cost and many people complained about minor features missing from Word which we had to find workarounds. However, we were able to find workarounds and since it's included with our G Suite license it's saved us thousands per year. Everything is backed up and easy to share and we don't have to worry about dealing with future updates with Microsoft that cause us to buy new licenses or a costly yearly payment.

Cons

It's getting very close to feature parity with Office however it's still not 1-1. Google Sheets *just* released the ability to check for duplicates, prior you had to use a freemium browser extension. Training users who were very familiar and comfortable with Word was time consuming even though they are similar.

Everything for Individuals to Small Businesses and Fast to Learn

Reviewed 3 years ago

Overall Google Docs covers all the necessities and far more for even the most advanced users. Its been my go to document editor for a few years now and will remain at the top. Most competitors are only note taking software or of course Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office 365, which invites a new level of confusion between the two for users I may share documents with unlike Google Docs. I've seen Google Docs used by both large enterprises and legal businesses which shows just how widely accepted its easy to use approach is. As an entrepreneur I have to think about my clients and colleagues whom I communicate with, making certain we can communicate and access shared files without any hiccups 24/7.

Pros

Google Docs brings all the tools and features of a AAA desktop text editor to the cloud at no cost. It's really easy to learn how to use because Google maintains a clean interface with intuitive controls/navigation. Saving all your documents to the cloud is a huge bonus you don't always realize until you have it. I found myself opening documents on my mobile device and sharing them to work colleagues,...

Cons

There are some advanced features that you may find in Microsoft Word missing from Google Doc, however its a tradeoff for easy of use. It would be nice if the navigation through documents was more customized. For example a left side navigation bar that broke down categories and subcategories for faster browsing. Google Docs doesn't have the same file explorer view as in Google Drive which creates a bit of a mess of files.

Reviewed 4 years ago

And finally, Google Docs is an absolutely free - as opposed to an extensive, yet somewhat expensive, Office software.

Pros

I love in Google Docs previewing and saving changes in real time - there is no situation, that I forget to save something and close the document or turn off the computer - everything is automatically saved. I also like a simple system of comments or history of changes in the document - this tool really shines when the participants of the document are far apart, but want to be sure that the work on...

Cons

As I mention before, Google Doc works in our browser. Obviously, we can't edit documents, in the same way as we can do in programs that are created for this.

Simple Cloud Documents

Reviewed 4 years ago
Pros

For our internal office use, the biggest positive points about Google Docs are that (1) it's cloud-based and (2) free to use. While a system like Microsoft Office (or even Apache OpenOffice) offers a more robust feature set, the benefits of a work team using an online platform can't be overstated. We really enjoy the ability to share documents between users, which makes collaboration a breeze. The...

Cons

As noted above, the feature set in Docs simply doesn't compare to more powerful desktop software like Word. We've found that complex document alterations are occasionally difficult (if not impossible) to achieve with any semblance of efficiency, and Word's grammar tools are still superior (though with Google's machine learning grammar bots, Word's dominance may not last too much longer). Another negative...
