DocsGPT, developed by Arc53, is an open-source platform that brings AI assistants, agents and enterprise search to an organisation's own documents while leaving the choice of where data and models live with the organisation. It can be used in Arc53's EU cloud, as a dedicated managed instance in a chosen region, on the organisation's own servers, or fully air-gapped with no outbound traffic. Knowledge is built from uploaded files, including PDF, Word and Excel documents and scanned pages read with OCR, and from connected services such as Google Drive, SharePoint and OneDrive, Confluence, GitHub and Amazon S3, which can sync on a schedule. Every answer is cited to the passage, file and source it came from, and a knowledge graph view shows how people, organisations and documents relate. Agents go beyond answering: they call tools, databases and APIs, and each action can be set to Allow, Ask first or Off, so writes can wait for a person to approve them. A visual workflow builder chains AI steps, conditions and code into repeatable document jobs that run from chat, the API, a webhook or a schedule, and agents can produce Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files with version history. DocsGPT works with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Azure OpenAI, Groq and OpenRouter, or with local models through Ollama or vLLM, and models can be switched per agent. It exposes an OpenAI-compatible API, an MCP server and an embeddable chat and search widget. Administrators get OIDC single sign-on, SCIM 2.0 provisioning, role-based access, guardrails that flag, redact or block, per-user usage quotas and an append-only activity log exported as CSV or NDJSON.
