I used Rocket.Chat on a daily basis to chat with team members. It's an easy-to-use workplace chat app, that can definitely be used as your only option. It offers a lot of add-ons, which may be useful.
It's a familiar layout as it's similar to Slack. You can easily create channels and chat to team members. Uploading custom emoji is always fun, and it works well on Rocket.Chat.
It just doesn't feel as streamlined and fast as Slack, and I'm not a huge fan of the notification sounds included.

Free solution for chat inside your company.
Many ways how you can deploy this product. Great comunity around Rocket.chat and 15k Github stars. This chat provides also livechat - ideal for live support on your website.
This product has lots of bugs - 2,2k issues on Github Screen mirroring functionality does not work properly. The Docs are not complete for some features.

It has improved the overall communication of our team, especially when we have team members working remotely.
Easy to use for internal communication, whether it's one on one, groups, teams, or company wide. It works well and gets the job done.
We had a really hard time getting the notifications to work and the app needs to be restarted frequently.

Once you've set up the server it's powerful and easy to use.
It has some great features and it's great that you have so much control over the software as administrator.
It was a bit more complex to setup and tweak the user roles but it's also good that they offer so much options.

We are HipChat customer and a pure no-cloud company. It means we cannot leave futher when HipChat and slack will merge. We were looking at a good replacement for HipChat and Rocket.Chat seems to be a very good candidate so far.
We really like the easiness of the product, it allows almost any type of modern communication like #slack can do in the cloud, Rocket.Chat is located on your servers inside your company. For no-cloud enterprise, this is the perfect fit !
It needs more extension. So far the app list is not very long, but I'm pretty sure this will come. Anyway, the existing list is already great.

Overall, this tool does what it is promised. It does miss some of the extensions and integration; however on the surface, this is still a pretty good and reliable tool.
The great thing about this product vs it's competitors such as SLACK is that it is far cheaper, with close to the same functionality as you would expect with the other guys. You can either communicate with people in groups, or in a private channel
It does lack some functionality such as extensions that are shared with the competitors. Also an option to save parts of a chat would be helpful

This is a great on-prem chat system and for sharing sensitive data that can't leave the office. Once the server was built it has been rock solid.
We love that there is an on-premise option for security. The chat features are intuitive and easy to use.
Configuring the server was a bit of an issue, but once we followed the documentation it and a bit of help from support we got it up and going.

collaboration and task management
the best part is that since the product is open source it is highly customizable. Mostly aligns with what slack can do for you, some new features are needed to make it happen. Also nearly free if you can use it right. Would recommend for startups and other tech teams which are less than 10-15 members
More integrations are required to make this completely usable. Also with hangouts chat now available the product needs better differentiation in terms of the value proposition

It is open, can be altered to your needs and not restrictive.
Lack of video tutorials with different server side languages.

My overall experience has been great it gets the job done, I am able to chat with customers and clients with ease, quickness and efficiency.
This software has made my job so much easier to handle with chatting with customers and clients. I currently use this program to do troubleshoot with customers and it has worked very nicely in providing me great automated system built in and quick responses for my customers/clients.
The least thing I like about it is that it can be a little more vibrant , its a bit plain jane but that's just me. I do value good visuals.

The software itself is fine. It's the false advertising that pisses me off. So that's all I wanted to say.
They advertise as FREE, OPEN SOURCE. When in fact there is a 7 day free trial and the service is not anywhere near free.

After getting Rocket Chat up and running, our end user is very pleased with the overall experience!
I liked the support that was given by the Rocket Chat team to answer all of our End Users questions to make the transition of the licenses seamless.
The initial license process was a little confusing and would have been really confusing if the team didn't do a conference call to clarify questions.

Rocket.Chat is a reliable software and you can trust on it.
After a lot of exploring we found Rocket.Chat, it's open-source, also free and easy to setup. Rocket.Chat can be integrated easily.
Documentation is not quite good. If you want to use the Rocket.Chat marketplace, you have to go to a paid plan.

Our team tried switching to Rocket.Chat for a while, but we haven't reach a satisfatory setup yet.
When compared with the market leader, Rocket Chat doesn't miss any features. On top of that, it's open source, free and extensible!
With the open source and no price tag, comes the lower support and harder setup. If the IT team is up to the challenge, it's worth it!

I used to develop websites, and one of my colleagues asked to implement the free livechat with rocketchat.
It allows several forms of deployment, among that one-clicl-free-heroku deployment that I like most
It has a simplistic interface and complicated internal adjustment and configuration structure

Very good, large efficiency increases are possible.
This software centralises all of your communication channels and makes the task of managing communications much more efficient.
It can take a while to adjust to having so many channels of communication all in one place and remembering to adjust tone to suit format. But it soon feels natural

Barely used it, iMessage is just as good and easier!
We got to keep a thread of all of our professional conversations in one organized location we could all see.
It’s not at all intuitive the way people normally keep track of conversations w people in their phones.
