Cons

Currently, our practice is heavily involved with bundled payment initiatives and see this only expanding - would like to see a bundled patient management solution that would integrate risk calculations, clear episode of care mgmt., patient reported outcomes More education for sql reporting and crystal reporting

Nextgen EHR has good interaction with other Nextgen modules such as EPM

Pros

Nextgen is part of a large collaborative suite of products including EPM, Document Management, Mobile solution, Patient portal.

Cons

Product is forced out the door with bugs that need subsequent fixes, similar to IOS releases. Upgrading is a large project undertaking.

Handling the charge entry was great until they changed the claims management area.

Cons

What I like least are the entire payment posting, followup, and reports. There's no real training.

It is also the only vendor that has NextPen which lets patients fill out forms and have that information automatically transcribed to their chart.

Pros

There are multiple routes to the same destination which works great for me as I have my preferred routes that allow me to work smarter not harder (although this feature can be overwhelming to some who are less tech savvy and need a single pathway).

Cons

(This is not NextGen's fault, rather a location problem, but this should be placed into consideration when making purchasing decisions).

Pros

It has interface capability with labs, eRX and more.

Cons

I am a consultant for various clinics with NG. One of the clinics I supported has had many problems with the stability of the product. Crashing of the system was a weekly event. NG support was unable to help solve the problem. It is also fairly outdated in my opinion.

There are so many nice features like Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances, faxing within the chart or EHR, and it does my billing to.

Pros

I can access my records from my IPad, my laptop, or any other device capable of getting on the Internet.

Cons

There is a learning curve and there are some bugs in the practice management portion where accounts will show an outstanding insurance balance when there is none.

Understand the nature of the beast. I often hear users complain about the difficulty in learning. Yes, from the management, development perspective there is a steep learning curve however, if you want to enjoy the benefits of all of the tools you must first understand the tools available so that you can then utilize them in meaningful (yes .. meaningful) ways in YOUR practice. If you want to robust features you must learn how they work and how to use them; it's that simple.

Utilizing the Reports available has proven to be beneficial financially and in reference to organizational time management.

Cons

Tech support wait time varies 20 - 65 minutes; phone call return option has been unsuccessful; system down for maintenance frequently. In Scheduling you can view only ONE month at a time, there is no roll-over to partial following month.
