Don't waste your time trying to configure any other LMS platform to suite your needs. All you will and can ever need in an elearning solution is found in eFront.

Pros: Highly customisable plaform. A variety of options - too many to implement all at once.

Cons: A background in .php / html 5 / CSS is a requirement.

I work as a teacher in an agency that has nine separate facilities that serve the needs of court-place, adjudicated youth. As part of my MFA internship experience, I wanted to develop an online course in creative writing so that I could teach not only my students, but other students in my agency as well. While previous students in the MFA program at Wilkes University had considered creating an online course, they all abandoned the idea as too difficult or costly. eFront made my project a reality! I will be singing eFront's praises to others at my university,to the creative writing community at large, and to anyone else who might be interested in creating online courses as well. Struggling writers are always looking for a way to supplement their writing lives, and efront allows for all sorts of magnificent possibilities. Thank you eFront!

Pros: Easy to use interface-I had no prior computer programing skills and only a little instruction on how to get started. Features comparable with more highly recognized commercial platforms.

Cons: Some of the features didn't meet my specific needs. I couldn't figure out how to use the grade book feature.

What is eFront?

Used by Fujitsu, Honeywell, Autodesk, and other established organizations around the world, eFrontPro is a flexible and feature-rich online learning and talent development platform that aggregates in one solution the processes and tools necessary for a fruitful and enjoyable learning experience. By default, eFrontPro has three user types: administrator, professor, and student. New user types can be added anytime, depending on your need. Administrators can invite other users into eFrontPro, create user segments such as branches and audiences, customize the platform’s appearance, specify gamification points, badges, and levels, set up notifications, among others.

Aside from the ability to quickly build courses, professors can create quizzes or surveys to gauge the effectiveness of the courses they offer. Learners are granted their very own student portals to view and access their assigned or chosen courses, monitor their progress, and keep track of their scores anywhere, anytime, on any device.

Main Features

Course Management

Lessons bundled together make up a course. Professors set up the timing and manner in which students gain access to the lessons, including the certifications awarded to them after course completion. eFrontPro lets you put into good use any content you already have so you don’t have to create your materials from scratch. These can include slideshows, worksheets, presentations, documents, videos, images, charts, graphs, PDFs, and so on.

eFrontPro also functions as a centralized repository where you can upload, store, and retrieve your files and course materials. When adding a new course, you’ll be asked to name and categorize it, identify the course type (online learning versus blended learning), and provide a short description. You may also include a course code for easier identification and retrieval, select the course’s language settings, indicate how many days the course will be available, and select the certification’s template from a dropdown menu.

Units, tests, and surveys can be added to your content, and previously exported eFrontPro courses can be imported back into the platform. You can then select who the users of the course will be by ticking the check box corresponding to their names.

Learning Delivery

eFrontPro supports two learning delivery types: online learning and blended learning. Online learning is when courses are exclusively accessible online, and blended learning is a combination of online lessons and face-to-face classroom-type learning. For students who can’t make it to a physical location to attend classes, eLearning is the perfect setup. Depending on the availability of the courses, lessons can be taken at the learner’s pace or as scheduled. Courses can also be made available offline.

Blended learning, otherwise known as mixed or hybrid learning, leverages the best of both worlds. This means discussions can be done in a classroom setting, and supplemental coursework can be accessed online. eFrontPro is equipped with tools such as videoconferencing, discussions, personal messaging, collaborative content building, and calendar to facilitate communication and collaboration between instructors and learners. Third-party chat tools like Zopim can be integrated into the system.

The software also offers a gamification engine that uses points, badges, levels, and leaderboards to promote engagement and a healthy dose of competition among your students.

Security

Aside from an audit trail that presents a timeline of all user actions within the system and details everything that happened to whom and when, eFrontPro employs role-based access protocols where access credentials granted to users are based on their designations within the organization. Users, courses, and lessons are archived instead of deleted, so accidental deletion of this information can instantly be reversed.

Filters are likewise used to protect against attacks such as CSRF, XSS, SQL injection, and others. eFrontPro uses security features such as two-factor authentication, IP blacklisting, custom password matching, and password expirations to prevent privilege escalation and unauthorized access.

Customization

eFrontPro comes with a highly customizable user framework. You can use your company’s logo across the platform, as well as personalize the theme, layout, and functionality of the app. You can create pages and specify the type of content on each of those pages. If you have programming skills, you may access the software’s source code and tweak it to your advantage.

The site builder allows you to create web pages even without the help of CMS platforms like WordPress or Drupal. It enables you to promote courses on the main page, include "About Us" and "Contact" pages, even an FAQ page to your eLearning portal. You may also use the plugin API to extend the system as you see fit.

eFrontPro’s user interface is responsive and automatically adjusts to fit any screen, be it a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. The app works well with all modern browsers.

eFrontPro comes of the box with several tools and integration options for enterprise use.

To help with organizing and managing large scale corporate training and talent development, eFrontPro supports Branching (separate environments within the same installation with their own users, courses, settings and themes), while User Types, Extensible User Profiles and Audiences make it easy to dynamically segment and manage groups of users and manage their access to the system.

Skills, a tagged collection of skills that can be offered by courses and assigned to users help with identifying training needs and setting up course prerequisites.

On the authentication front, eFrontPro includes built-in support for SSO with the LDAP, SAML2 and Active Directory standards. Extensive reporting capabilities are also available, including user activity tracking and full logging of system actions. eFrontPro also provides a comprehensive REST API enabling enterprise IT departments to integrate it with any third party platform or system.

eCommerce

eFrontPro comes fully prepared for commerce, with built-in support for selling courses and accepting payments via PayPal and Stripe. For basic commerce use, eFrontPro allows instructors to set their price for directly on a course's page and start selling, while through its "Price Track" option, eFrontPro allows administrators to create special offers such as discounts and premiums covering a particular set of courses.

Such offers that can be configured to hold only for specific date ranges and can also be constrained to specific user groups. eFrontPro also offers native integration with the OpenSesame eLearning content marketplace, allowing instructors to buy SCORM formatted lesson content for reselling to their users.

Tracking sales takes place in the "Transactions" page, which lists all existing sales along with their details, allowing for a quick overview of the platform's eCommerce activity.

Finally, the "Balance" page lists the learner's remaining balance that's available for buying courses (and, after they top app, can be used as a virtual currency within the platform).

Integrations

Aside from its REST API that allows you to connect third-party systems, eFrontPro readily integrates with Facebook for social media, WebEx and BigBlueButton for videoconferencing, and OpenSesame, an eLearning marketplace.
