eXo Platform is a relatively new app, that can be helpful for corporation and communication on all different levels. I think, it is best suited for medium to large sized companies, as it has so many functions, most of which is not beneficial for small teams.
Without a doubt, eXo Platform provides everything you may need to put into action your innovative digital work base or customer experience solution. This app design in a way that it helps you to get real work done, without the platform being the part of the work. Because it is cloud-based, you can easily share any kind of data with your co-workers, which makes collaboration so much easier. If you are looking for a multifunctional social collaboration platform for the enterprise, I suggest you try eXo Platform, as it has an entirely new and sophisticated approach towards collaboration and communication between coworkers.
This platform is constantly developing, so every week you are faced with different types of updates, which can be annoying. Plus, the app is packed with different functions, some of with you may never use. As a result the interface looks cluttered and not particularly user-friendly. Also, the integration with other applications can be complicated and requires a lot of user experience as well, as blunt luck.

I've been working with eXo platform for over a year and a half. I've been discovering its features, its qualities and the points to be improved in order to create a custom portal with customizations. Mostly, I consider it as a very good social platform, with a lot of ready-to-use modules and features, like chat, documents, notifications, web calls. Everything is made up in order to be scaled and configured in different environments and techniques. I enjoyed eXo very much, as I enjoyed its special and very kind team, with whom I still talk on Skype or other instant messages services. Even, the latest updates, version 5, are bringing a lot of features and bug fixing!

maybe all the deploying part could be improved, looking for example to other new tools that spend only few seconds in order to deploy or redeploy (modules) the whole app. multitenanting, at least for my experience

This great piece of software build on top of GateIn portal will give you all GateIn features (Content Management, Single Sign-On, LDAP support, etc) and much more. Using eXo Platform we created a secure portal-based site and an intranet that encourages employees in an organization to exchange knowledge, documents, work collaboratively, task management, contact data... All done socially and mobile. Some Features: 1. Microblogging and Activity Streams Activity Stream displays text messages or multimedia content posted by employees , customers, suppliers. It is where you'll find all your company's activity. 2. Document Management Take advantage of version history, rollbacks, votes, comments and more. It lets you store files in a private and secure environment, in other business systems like SharePoint, or in other cloud storage solutions, such as Google Drive or CMIS repositories. 3. Knowledge Management Wikis, Forums, Calendar, Answers & FAQ 4.- Profile Management It's possible to manage and organize all the contacts in your organization in a single directory, together with information on their professional profile. 5.- Groups Create your own collaboration spaces complete with dashboards, discussion forums, wikis, calendars, and documents. Allow any user to create a collaborative space and invite other users to join with different permissions according to roles 6.- Search eXo includes an ElasticSearch based search tool segmented according to the sections and contents in your intranet, indexing other contents published by other systems, making it a federated search tool for your organization's entire knowledge base. 7. Add-ons Marketplace Apart from its native features, you can also integrate eXo with other business applications, productivity tools like BonitaBPM, JasperReports Server, etc. 8.- Mobile Native iOS and Android app. The Cons:
eXo is an Enterprise Social Network that will improve productivity across the board in all members of the company. It's very feature rich so if you want your organization's knowledge, private, secure and organized then you have to try it!
We not found any except the lack of a feature found on other enterprise social networks like Yammer (gammification).
I've been working with eXo platform for 6 months. we use this platform as a social collaboration place for an Industrial Association. we use community edition for free with a lot of ready-to-use features (like profile, forum, work spaces, wiki, document mng.) documentation is useful feature for us. its a Knowledge Management system (KMS) that provide content mng., advance search, tagging and full-txt search. it enables content sharing through our community. spaces provide a virtual place for team work. this application allows you Collaborate on a topic or project with other users. you could have private Document Management , wiki or forum in each space. eXo has a great administration pane that let you manage users and define group and permission. creating customized pages and site is easy for admin. as an JAVA opensource platform you could customize every thing. we did a lot of changes in profile and run some of our services on it. translating eXo was a great and new experience for me. Crowdin Platform is used for managing eXo translations, so you could submit and develop new translation by help of others. Finally the support team is great!
it's a java based opensource with great ready to use feature that could be use as a social enterprise system
it takes a lot of time for our developers to customize some of it features. but finally we did it...

eXo Platform is an enterprise social networking solution that allows companies to connect their employees, partners, and customers through collaborative or content-driven intranets, extranets, or community websites, enabling better teamwork, employee engagement and productivity. It improves internal collaboration processes, makes idea management more efficient, and reduces email dependence.
eXo is open source, which affords customers the freedom to avoid the traditional vendor lock-in associated with bigger proprietary players. While it provides integrated, full-featured capabilities right out of the box, it is highly customizable and extensible. Some of eXo Platform’s core features are social networking, collaboration, video calls and chat, content and document management, and localization and mobility.
Robust, affordable, and with a user-centric interface, eXo Platform comes packed with numerous social collaborative features and readily integrates with various third-party business applications for a seamless information flow. With eXo, users can share links, documents, and status updates, follow their colleagues’ activities in the activity stream, create workspaces for specific teams or projects, collaborate on files or tasks, and share knowledge via the eXo Platform enterprise wiki.
eXo Platform is available in the cloud, can be installed within your company’s premises, and offers native iPhone, iPad and Android apps for mobile or remote workers.
A platform for organizations wanting to add a social dimension to their existing information system or build a social intranet that stays extensible, eXo Platform provides a social communication solution befitting of companies of all sizes, from smaller teams to global organizations. Its customers represent various industry sectors, but most of them are from finance, healthcare, education, and the public sector.
Target departments are IT, HR, communication, marketing, and other core business departments. Some of eXo Platform’s customers are Bureau Veritas, Orange, Red Hat, Caixa, HSBC, NATO, The BlueBook Network, UCLA, and Johns Hopkins University.
Social networks are, no doubt, powerful collaboration channels – Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn being the foremost examples. And because social networks play a big role in reshaping users’ behaviors, practices and processes, taking the social approach to enterprise collaboration makes sense, especially considering the virtually zero learning curve.
eXo Platform introduces the power of social networks into the enterprise via connections, which allow users to connect with co-workers, vendor partners, and clients; profiles, which help users identify experts and find colleagues with relevant knowledge and experience; and activity feeds, where status updates, comments, and files are streamed through dedicated workspaces to facilitate task/project collaboration among teams.
Effective collaboration is the heart and soul of team-based endeavors. A team’s capacity to coordinate and work toward shared goals is essential for them to rally a project to completion on time, on budget, and according to specifications.
eXo Platform enables collaboration through calendars, workspaces, wikis and forums. Workspaces allow authorized team members to share tasks, events, documents, and other relevant materials. Wikis enable collaborators to build knowledge bases, documentation, even procedural standards that everyone in the team can refer to for process consistency. eXo’s full-featured forum app provides all the requisite discussion tools to ensure community bulletin boards serve their purpose: permissions, moderation, notifications, polls, locking, bans, pruning, and search.
Global teams are now more a norm than an aberration. One setback of virtual collaboration, however, is the lack of face-to-face communication between colleagues, as some things just can’t be conveyed through email - things such as a sense of personal connection, and non-verbal cues like facial expression and gestures.
When teams can’t be in the same room at the same time due to time zone and geographic constraints, the next best thing to a face-to-face communication is video conferencing. eXo Platform has built-in video calling and instant messaging capabilities to make meetings more effective and information exchange faster through one-on-one or team chat rooms.
Content sharing is a staple with team undertakings, and content scattered across emails and various file folders can be difficult to locate, organize, and make sense of. More than just a social platform, eXo provides a centralized data hub where users can upload and share, and tag and retrieve task-related files and documents. It also allows users to build multiple easy-to-access websites for pain-free content classification, search, and publishing.
eXo Platform’s unified search feature provides a single interface to make searching for any content type easier. The search-ahead helper field displays the most relevant search results, and filtering options are available for a more advanced search. The app makes both structured and unstructured content easily available and secure through workflows and an advanced security management system.
eXo Platform is available in over 20 languages, thanks to an active eXo community of more than 200 contributors translating the platform in various languages. For on-the-go updates and collaboration, the software offers native mobile apps that can be downloaded on your iPhone, iPad or Android devices.
eXo Platform is based on open standards that help customers develop and augment their platform. It also provides add-ons to connect to third-party software. From the add-on center, eXo Platform can be used with Microsoft Exchange, Bonitasoft, [Google Drive] (http://www.getapp.com/collaboration-software/a/google-drive/), [Box] (http://www.getapp.com/collaboration-software/a/box/), SharePoint, and more.
eXo Platform offers two subscription modes: cloud and on-premise. The eXo Cloud Premium plan is priced at $3 per user per month, with two months free for annual subscriptions. For a three-year commitment, you pay $72 per user, which is essentially one year of service free.
The on-premise edition starts at $1,200 per year for 25 users. Varying user tiers are available, including unlimited users.
