Xero - Simple accounting software for small businesses

Reviewed 2 years ago

Xero allows us to run our accounts and manage staff expenses very simply and quickly. Overall it is a very easy system to use and has cut down a considerable amount of admin time. Overall it is positive, however, you can get caught out with the add on's needed to raise it from a very basic software.

Pros

The interface is very simplistic. The headings are very clear and the day to day using of the software is very easy to teach to new staff. The expenses app allows individual staff members to load their own documents cutting down admin time considerably.

Cons

A lot of the figures that you would like to see at quick glance like total spend with each supplier are not immediately apparent unless you run the correct search.

Timesaver!

Reviewed a month ago

Very good, nice and snappy. Paired with Hubdoc it is a fantastic tool.

Pros

The best thing about Xero, or any decent accounting package, is just how time saving they can be when used properly. As the owner of a growing and busy small business, Xero has taken a massive load off my mind when it comes to invoicing and tracking what we are owed. I wouldn't be without it now.

Cons

We switched to Xero from Quickbooks and the only thing I miss is that Quickbooks had a feature in the search where you can search individual line items on invoices, very useful to find out what a specific customer was charged.

Set and forget

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall this is a set and forget app. My accountant helped me set things up, and sh can quickly and easily access what she needs, taking the headache out of tax time!

Pros

I like that Xero integrates with my bank statements, I can set rules and then the rest is automatic. Need GST? Set once and then forget about it. Can also integrate with my practice management software, although this ended up making this messy - it was confusing for the software to know which account belonged to which bank transaction, so had to switch this off. But that is not the software's fault.

Cons

Some features could be more user-friendly for the uninitiated. The bank statements can be difficult to navigate when importing, and many transactions were originally missed and needed to be imported again. Fiddly and annoying process.

Overall great, but one flaw to be vary of

Reviewed 9 years ago

I have been using Xero for a couple of years now and am very happy with it. I was with MYOB but had a bad experience when they upgraded their systems to include cloud computing. I have had a look at their new systems, and while they are much improved and worth exploring for someone starting from scratch, I will still stick with Xero.

Pros

My accountants use it extensively so it makes my work and their work integrate so easily which ultimately saves money. Reconciliation is a very labour intensive exercise and Xero cuts a huge amount of time out of this process. On its own it is quite cheap too. I have an expensive plugin (Tradegecko), but the functionality of that pays for itself. Xero creates the framework of my entire business system.

Cons

If you have a business where you have a large number of transactions coming in for the same value, e.g. if you have magazine subscriptions all for $5 a month each then Xero is not a good option, at all. I did have this problem and it was a total pain. I have corresponded extensively with Xero on this issue and they do not see it as a priority and have said directly that they have no intentions on making...

Do it clean and beautiful with Xero. A powerful and worthy accounting software.

Reviewed 2 years ago

I have had a fulfilling experience with Xero. From the start, the product has been giving me and my work colleagues a very outstanding experience in accounting. More to just accounting, it helps us keep a record of our financial activities with the bookkeeping function as well as analysing our financial health through financial reports.

Pros

Xero offers one excellent invoicing features which allows you to build very useful and professional invoices and share them easily. Also it has a very effective bookkeeping function where you can store all your financial related documents, files , contracts, bills and receipts in a well organized way for easy access. Also Xero reporting feature helps keep track of your financial activities by generating accurate accounting reports to give the clear insights of each and every financial activities. Also, by analysing the reports, it helps one understand the cash flow in your business, your financial health as well as tracking metrics. The user support is very helpful and the support team always offers professional assistance.

Cons

There is nothing that i like least about Xero. All its features have been very useful and helpful and am completely satisfied.

Reliable bookkeeping package for low-transaction-volume businesses

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

Xero is incredibly easy to pick up and use, even with little training. There are countless articles and forums online, so any question and process can be understood very easily. The reports and transaction listing are easy to navigate, though you have to manually adjust a lot of settings every time (ie the setting are not carried forwards, despite having default reports set). The bank reconciliations are easy with direct bank connection (except for Credit cards, which have to be imported manually). The ability to set up rules makes reconciliation really quick and easy. The STP compliance is made super easy and seamless.

Cons

Some of the new reports, while looking pretty, lack the functionality of the old reports, which have now been removed. One of the key missing functionality is being able to compare projects across one period. The foreign currency gains and losses are also hard to navigate if you use it. Xero is still recording FX movements from a bank account that has been closed for multiple years. Overall, if you need to do any analysis, budgeting and deep dives into your data, you will be doing it outside of Xero.

Xero is a software that meets my expectations and needs since it is easy to use, configure and can encode some elements such as search functions to locate some particular numbers, business or relevant transactions and multiple key features such as the panel that is can customize and presents a beautiful user interface with graphics for bank accounts has a unique billing template and can be customized and you can easily create quotes and even turn them into purchase order invoices, Xero is a competent accounting management system that works according to the rules and priorities of my company.

Pros

xero is a rosbusta accounting software with complex functions also has the mobility and the modern interface of unlimited users one as employee and others for the software of comtabilidad in our businesses and is relatively easy to use and learn enough you can see documents Once they are properly configured allows us to see and consilir our transsations without having to go to the office of the comtable or be or sending mailing or bills as they can be loaded into the system of xero as well can be configured the part of contror to obtain A general overview of your business can also be functional for medium and large companies since they are well developed and offer you a solid and comprehensive functions.

Cons

I like this software from xero but lately the customer service has been noticed down and in some of the plans the cost is too high for some companies peueñas.

Glad I found Xero!

Reviewed 2 years ago

For a long time I used Microsoft Money (free) then Sage Cloud accounting when the Microsoft product stopped being supported. Sage was an improvement but I never really got a good handle on it. Xero was easy from the get-go and great support on a couple of things when I needed it.

Pros

Everything is easy to do and easy to find. The ability to track and report on categories of income and expenditure. The ability to send invoices from within Xero. Connecting directly with bank and credit card accounts etc. The ability to set rules for reconciling bank states which makes life much quicker. My accountant can also have access so I don’t have to prepay and print out information for them.

Cons

Nothing really. It all works smoothly.

Xero - Overall Great Product

Reviewed 3 years ago

The benefits are the ability to have all our accounting record keeping in one place, and to get reports on any side of our accounting process with the click of a button.

Pros

Easy to use and provides all the information to run our business - from an accounting standpoint. What I like most is the ability to import bank transactions.

Cons

The feature I like the least is Fixed Assets. I find it confusing at times and cannot understand why we cannot attach a copy of the Vendor Invoice to a Fixed Asset file. Find this frustrating when we seem able to attach invoice copies to most other types of transactions.

What would I do without Xero

Reviewed 2 years ago

This product has single handedly grown my business. During tax season where every minute counts I find that I can have great year end conversations with clients and advise them appropriately the first week in January and have everything processed and done by the end of January.

Pros

Fixed asset register is something that was always missing in QBO Clean looking. Not a lot of clutter on page

Cons

Email support instead of live person. But the Xero community is great and they are always willing to help.

Xero

Reviewed 2 years ago

Xero allows us to focus our time on growing our business rather than focusing on bank recs and allocating invoices to payments. It is a very easy system to use and their customer support and online help is fantastic.

Pros

For our SME, we find Xero very easy to use. It enables us to easily reconcile our different business accounts through easily linking with multiple banks. It also enables invoice sending and tracking and is used daily by the team to monitor outstanding invoices that are owed to us and also that need to be paid by us.

Cons

There are some slight issues when it comes to advance payments to suppliers through currency accounts but that is very specific to us and apart from this there is very little wrong with Xero.

My experience with the app Xero

It was a beautiful and unique experience. I hope this application will continue to develop and be one of the best applications

Pros

Cons

I hope that the speed of settlements within the application will improve

Very ammatur

Reviewed 8 years ago

Xero is very basic as an accounting program. The market to which it markets it has no understanding of, is, therefore, unable to address any questions or requests coming from businesses in these markets. Customer Service is appalling. Many requests that are essential to business have been open in some cases more than 5 years and they seem to only reply to requests posted online once a year. If you...

Pros

Relatively good online/mobile app.

Cons

Takes forever to respond to customer requests. Have very generic type responses when they eventually respond which could be a year later. Has features that are meant to implement open for more than 5 years. Not made for small business that deals with small to large enterprises. No Partial invoicing. Can't deal with different departments having different functions ie quotes to buying department, invoices to the financial department. There is no way to allocate contacts to these functions you need to a separate spreadsheet. No track record between quote and invoices, you have to open invoice and quote to know exactly which job belongs to which quote and invoice.

A great option

Reviewed 6 years ago

As a firm we switched to xero almost a year ago, and it transformed the way we approach accounting services for clients - for the better. Our own internal accounting became a lot easier and smoother, with the greater collaboration that we needed. But it also changed our clients that we switched over to xero, from other cloud accounting software or traditional desktop software

Pros

There isn’t a lot of cloud accounting software today that can handle the more complex businesses as well as xero. The automatic bank feeds (they are adding new direct bank feeds constantly), the integrations with over 700 third party applications Automatic invoice reminders Ability to do flexible budgeting and forecasting in xero and report on it Tracking Categories and reporting on a Category is super easy Fixed asset register is included and easy depreciation allocation Unlimted users (great basic permissions - more flexibility lacking) There is constant updates and upgrades with a solid product improvement pipeline

Cons

Would love a third tracking category It doesn’t have a delivery note option (although through a complex process you can create one) Customer statements doesn’t include the standard days outstanding buckets as expected, e.g. debt due currently, 30 day, 60 days etc Customer prepayments doesn’t appear as credits/negative balances on statements - very confusing to customers You can’t delete a contact once created (very easy to create a contact), only archive Would have loved for finance lease (amortisation table) reporting to be set automatically

Very simple web based software

Reviewed 2 years ago

It has been okay-I have expected more from the product.

Pros

What was the layout of the dashboard. It makes everything look very simple and plain almost too simple.

Cons

I’ve needed a lot of customer support throughout the last year and a half and I don’t get real time answers. I have to wait at least a day for them to get back with me and when they do then I have more questions and have to wait another day for them to get back with me. I did like the feature that could download my bank statements, but they’ve upgraded their platform that talks to my bank and now I have to do it manually

It's a lot more fun to do accounting now

Reviewed 2 years ago

We can now monitor developments and spot patterns with ease. Superannuation contributions can be made straight from Xero, saving time and reducing the risk of missing any important deadlines. In general, Xero makes it easier to handle your financial accounts.

Pros

We maintain track of all of our financial transactions, including payroll and cash flow, with the help of Xero. It greatly improved the bookkeeping's organization and clarity and made the process easier to handle. It takes a lot of the mystery out of keeping books and gives us quick access to vital financial statistics.

Cons

For no apparent reason, bank feeds may lose connection at times. Possibly more visually appealing than mere numerical statistics would be the addition of accompanying graphical charts.

Cons

Xero is a dynamic and very productive accounting tool with powerful features.

Reviewed 2 years ago

Xero has been giving us the best experience when it comes to accounting. It gives us a platform loaded with all accounting functionalities that we need to solve our accounting needs in an efficient, secure and convenient way.

Pros

Xero is a fantastic accounting tool that combines all accounting functions into a single platform allowing one to do it all just from a single product. From billing, invoicing, expenses tracking, inventory, bookkeeping, financial reporting and all that from a single product. It provides very powerful analytics functions that helps analyze and have transparency on cash flow, track metrics and understand the financial health of your organization. It provides a fast and easy wat for tracking and paying bills as well as getting a very clear overview of accounts payable. It allows you to connect your account with your bank so as to make transactions faster. It has very effective security functions which keeps all data very safe from any security breaches.

Cons

There is no feature in Xero that i have found difficult to use. I have nothing that i have found in Xero that is not effective.
