Pros and cons

They were very responsive and did a great job helping me figure out the best way to use the software. The Event tool was nice and make event management through the list easy to do.
The data reporting on opens/clicks/etc. Is incredibly helpful to track which emails gain a good response and which time of the week works best to send to our audiences.
The program is easy to customize, There are plug and play templates as I like to call them. They look beautiful from the consumer side and are easy to understand from the creative side too.
Given the circumstances of the pandemic and not using the services to even log in during the last year, that was inconsiderate and unacceptable.
Very disappointing, frustrating, and countless email cammpaigns have been wasted due to Constant Contacts software rearranging and distoring the format of the original created email.
I was disappointed when the dropped the event portion of their program and integrated with Eventbrite.

Constant Contact review

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

Constant Contact excels in handling various groups/lists and large numbers of contacts. I've dealt with companies with a vast customer base, and Constant Contact enables you to manually eliminate subscribers and errors from more extensive groups/lists. They're coming out with a new edition of their email builders, but the existing one allows for individual CSS coding per block, which allows for a lot of customization.

Cons

Constant Contact has several oddities that I haven't encounter with Mailchimp, especially when using external connections for photographs and URLs. The email builder's text and link editing is a little strange and has a few flaws. Also, unless you make folders for all of your emails, the new search option for past emails is quite sluggish and takes a very long time to find.

Constant Contact leads to a bumpy marketing start

Reviewed a month ago

Constant Contact may work well for some, but I found it tricky to adapt to my workflow.

Pros

I liked that I was able to send bulk emails with the program and that data was organized in a logical format

Cons

I didn't like the versatility of the product, it was challenging to customize it to appear the way I wanted it to, and it was especially so as the views between desktop and mobile devices were inconsistent.

Connect with your Audience

Reviewed 24 days ago

Overall, my experience with Constant Contact is mostly positive. After nearly two years of using the platform, I have gotten used to what I would define as the quirks of the platform and have found a rhythm building and sending monthly newsletters. There are things about the platform that I don't like and would change, but in general it is an easy platform and allows businesses of all sizes to easily connect with their audience on a regular basis with many integration options.

Pros

Constant Contact is a relatively easy platform to learn and use. Uploading contacts, built in reporting tools, and many integrations give business owners tons of flexibility to streamline their marketing processes.

Cons

While the platform is relatively easy to use, it does come with its quirks. When building email newsletters, it would be extra convenient to be able to group layers into blocks and then duplicate the blocks to make building faster and more efficient. I would also love if Constant Contact recognized shortcuts such as undo, redo, etc.

Constant Contact for Email Marketing and Web Design

My experience is remarkable, Constant Contact is the main tool for creating, personalizing and sending outbound emails.

Pros

I like the fact that Constant Contact combines email marketing and web design capabilities unlike any other email marketing automation program that I have ever come across.

Cons

Ever since I started using Constant Contact, it has never failed to accomplish my daily needs, mainly creating and sending outbound emails.

User-Friendly & Customizable

Reviewed 2 months ago

Overall, the platform is incredibly easy to use and I love the options for audience selection and customization. I do, however, wish there were more value in the platform for the subscription price.

Pros

I most like the amount of personalization the platform allows for. By tracking email metrics, we can see what strategies are most effective for each audience. This then allows us to be more successful in future marketing campaigns.

Cons

I wish there were more modern, aesthetically pleasing email templates available. Although creating a campaign from scratch is quite simple, sometimes I prefer to work off of a template. Unfortunately there are not many options that suit our company brand.

Best email marketing products for small businesses

Reviewed 5 months ago

Constant Contact has been our team's favorite platform to use for email marketing. We are a small company, so we cannot speak for large businesses, but for us, it has been perfect to reach our 10,000+ person audience on a regular basis, as well as incorporate landing pages and gain more subscribers.

Pros

Constant Contact was our top choice for two reasons. 1. Emails are more customizable than other platforms. You can move elements side to side which you can not do on a handful of competitors' platforms. This was huge for us as the look and style of our email are extremely important. 2. Constant Contact offers the ability to create landing page sign-up forms. Total game changer and incredibly easy to create!

Cons

Frequently the platform slows or errors and the text editor covers the text box we are working on. To fix it, we have to refresh the page and likely lose our work.

Bulk Email Marketing At Its Best

Reviewed 3 years ago

I like using Constant Contact and the experience has been good especially with bulk email sending.

Pros

1. Constant Contact makes it easy for me to send bulk email that goes straight to inbox and that what got me entangled with it. 2. I noticed a very rare feature that Constant Contact have that many other doesnt have. Constant Contact, allows me to collect donations from people. Many of the clients i have helped setup Constant Contact like the donation feature part so much too. 3. Constant Contact allows me create absolutely any kind of form that is needed for my list building.

Cons

Constant Contact doesnt have a free forever basic plan. Although they give first month free but I think they should have a plan for small businesses starting out who cannot afford their $20 a month.

Don’t sleep on Constant Contact!!!!

Reviewed 2 years ago

We love Constant Contact! The decision to switch to CC last year was the best decision that we made all year! It’s made our lives so much easier and we are definitely reaching more people!

Pros

Ease of use Beautifully organized with list/ calendar views, folders, and list management attributes Automated social media and email scheduling Campaign management Landing pages Forms Lead Ads Reporting both original and resends in detail with drill downs so that you can see who exactly clicked!

Cons

There is some room for improvement in the ability to tag other pages in the social media posting section. When I post, I have to leave the site to find the social handles of the people/businesses that I’m trying to tag. If it could auto populate like it does in the social media sites that would be amazing! More lead ad options other than just Facebook. Integrate with AirTable!

An email marketing platform that works!

Reviewed 4 years ago
Pros

We signed up with Constant Contact in somewhat a state of desperation, after having no luck with other platforms to do what we wanted them to. We were looking for an email marketing platform that would effectively take our data and create merge fields that worked, had the ability to segment lists, and also provided detailed reports including who had opened it, who had not unopened it and had the ability...

Cons

The one disadvantage with Constant Contact is that anyone that has the same email address is merged into one contact. This has been a small issue for us where we want to keep both contacts names even though they have the same email address. We have been able to work around this by asking all our customers with duplicate email addresses to update their email address.

A central area to control all stages of preparing and publishing marketing campaigns

Reviewed 6 months ago

It is good to have a wide range of capabilities that help in controlling all stages of preparing advertising campaigns and scheduling their publication through emails and social media platforms. With Constant Contact, we obtained comprehensive reports and analyzes that showed our ability to reach, and contributed to guiding us towards the required corrective actions.

Pros

Constant Contact makes it easy to create and manage email campaigns and customer satisfaction surveys from one central area. I like how the contact lists are prepared and the same campaign is customized to suit the interests of each list, which exempts us from preparing separate campaigns for each list as it is enough to take a copy of the main campaign and make adjustments easily. I also like that...

Cons

There is nothing to dislike about Constant Contact; I just want more templates and ready-made components to be able to improve the quality of our campaigns, and some restrictions need to be removed so that we can export the data we need at once.

Invaluable Tool for A Small Business or ANY Business

Reviewed 3 years ago

Constant Contact revolutionized the way we communicate with our clients to let them know what's coming up in our issues and how they can participate (our magazine is 100 percent supported by advertising) and our readers (each month we create an email "alert" with Constant Contact which lets our readership know that our free digital issue is now available online). My whole staff knows how to use it and it can be adapted to a great variety of communication purposes. Clients can download our rate kits from a Constant Contact email; readers can link to our issues from it. It has lowered our print bills for collateral materials immensely. No more printed flyers or brochures! And no more use of snail mail — clients can receive your Constant Contact mail immediately or at a pre-scheduled time.

Pros

Very easy to use. If you know how to upload an image or a graphic, you can create eye-catching emails or newsletter style communications very easily and modify or update them frequently and quickly. The analytics -- to see the percentage of recipients who opened your email and exactly which person did or didn't, the bounce rate which allows you to keep your lists current, and many other features are not only helpful but simple to use.

Cons

As time has gone on, the cost has increased, but it still saves us a great deal of money because our postage costs have gone way down. We hardly ever use our postage meter anymore for marketing mailings. It's all done through Constant Contact. They used to have a free desktop "widget" that allowed you to input an email address right from your desktop, but that has now been discontinued. It was extremely...

Constant Contact: Still a good option for nonprofits!

Reviewed 5 months ago

Overall, despite my one negative experience, I still recommend Constant Contact as the go-to email marketing tool for nonprofits. It's affordable, widely used, looks good enough, has solid list management & analytics, and has decent customer service (aside from the one experience I described) with an instant chat option I've used many times.

Pros

As one of the longest-running email marketing tools out there, Constant Contact has gone through some growing pains over the years as it updated its design tools and features to get more in line with the newer competitors coming out, but I think it's still one of the best options for nonprofits. It may not be the cheapest option anymore, but the price is still reasonable compared to some other competitors,...

Cons

This was several years ago now, but at a previous organization (a very small nonprofit with a budget of less than $500k and only 1.5 staff working on communications & fundraising), our account was reported as spam, and I didn't appreciate the way we were treated by customer service after that happened. They were borderline rude and treated us like we were intentionally spamming people, when it was...

Increased customer base

Reviewed a year ago

We love to reward returning customers, we know there are a lot of choices in clothing and jewelry. We used constant contact to make sure all of our customers know about our rewards and have the opportunity to use them in store and online. As a boutique it's important that we have items our customers are looking for but may not be able find in a mainstream store. We use the surveys to find out what styles our customers are most interested in, which also makes the customer feel valued and included. We discovered that out customers were looking for different styles than what we had originally anticipated. The pricing makes all of this a bit irrelevant since I can purchase the same services for much less from another software company.

Pros

The amount of new customers we brought in was awesome, we kept in touch with past or current customers, meaning they're more likely to become repeat customers. Email tracking and email automation, surveys (or polls), high deliverability rate, click tracking, insights, and ease of use are all pros. Customer service is very responsive.

Cons

Constant contact costs more and provides less for the price than most of the other email marketing software I've used. I'm absolutely fine with paying more to get more but it doesn't make sense to pay more to get less. Business 101... Depending on who the recipient has their email address with, more or less of the emails from constant contact may to wind up in the promotions label vs primary.

It keeps getting better!

Reviewed 6 years ago

Constant Contact is the standard for email marketing, and you can see why! It allows you to quickly upload your email contacts and create professional email marketing. We've been able to see how many people open each of our email campaigns, and which campaigns are most successful, making future marketing more targeted.

Pros

Love the ease of use - whether you want to send a quick email using a premade template, or customize every part of your message, Constant Contact gives you the tools. It's easy to find what you need, and you don't need to know anything about pixel size or the HTML color codes to create professional emails. Constant Contact just introduced A/B testing, so you can better gauge the headings and send times that get your audience to open the emails. Constant Contact is a very solid platform - I've yet to see any service outages, or experience any features that feel buggy, unstable, or like they're still in beta testing. If you have access to a feature on Constant Contact, you know that it will work.

Cons

It's difficult to manage old campaigns. Want to see what your message was last time, what template you used, or how long ago you sent an email to a particular group? Good luck - you'll be scrolling through pages of old campaigns by hand. At this time, you can't run reports to compare the percentage of opens/click-throughs per recipient group, or to compare how various keywords or send-times compare. To really analyze your marketing approach, you'll have to extract this data by hand. Some of the updates (i.e. A/B testing, custom template options) have been available to users of free competitor services for years. It would be nice to see Constant Contact take a more proactive approach to innovation and updates.

One stop shop EMAIL marketing platform

Reviewed 7 months ago

It was good and I recommend it for anyone starting off and needing email marketing.

Pros

Easy, user friendly and sooo many customizations! Mail chimp was cheaper but CC was way more automated and had many more options.

Cons

Cost started raising a bit in the last couple years. There’s so much more you can do with CC but it takes a bit of a learning curve to utilize its full potential- if you stick to basic email you’re fine but if you want to do much more which is ideal for marketing like landing pages you’ll be scratching your head for a while. Customer service is, “meh.”

The industry leader that I WANT to love

Reviewed 5 years ago

Their pricing is competitive for organizations with 10,000 or more contacts. But at the end of the day, the sweet spot of Constant Contact is basic communication, not marketing. Mobile-first responsive designs and customizable automation sequences should be a given for an industry leader known as the original pioneer of email marketing. Unfortunately, I can pick out a Constant Contact email in my inbox at a glance — and not just because of the requisite CC branding at the bottom. The look is less than elegant and does little to strengthen a company's brand.

Pros

It's easy to create opt-in lists and sign-up forms. There are lots of templates available to choose from, plus survey functionality and integrations with social media.

Cons

The email template designs are less than sophisticated. Many don't look good when read on a mobile device, which — thank you, Constant Contact analytics! — more than 55% of our recipients use to open their emails. The drag-and-drop interface has more limited functionality than other email providers I've tried. Design customization options are limited without knowing advanced CSS and HTML coding. In addition, automation sequences are limited to basic autoresponders. They are challenging to set up, and there are no "if/then" logic options for sending automated messages.

Great email platform for design and contacts

Reviewed 10 months ago

Overall this is a great platform to use if you want something that's a one step up from mailchimp. Anyone considering using this platform would need to have a bit of experience using emails but there are a lot of guides and help available to help build effective and nicely laid out emails. There's lots of options for email designs, ability to upload images and media as well as segment.

Pros

This email platform is super easy to use for those who are used to email but who don't have their own coded templates to use. The email build is a drag and drop function and you can alter the layout and block sizes really easily. The reporting is really easy to access, review and download so you can see what content is and isn't working as well as see who your most/least engaged audiences are. In terms of contacts, this platform uses both lists and tags for you to segment your audiences which is really handy (however I wouldn't have too many lists to avoid confusion). The ability to resend emails to non-openers is a great added benefit that most platforms don't offer.

Cons

Mass unsubscribing contacts has been woefully overlooked on this platform and really needs overhauling. If you only need to unsubscribe a couple that's fine, but if you need to do it for a lot of contacts, you need to segment based on engagement, download and then re-upload to the unsubscribed list which is time consuming. You can't select all contacts and then click 'unsubscribe' as an action.
