Widen is what our department needed

Reviewed 9 years ago

I'm part of a small, internal corporate video team. We have presenters around the world who often need access to some of our video assets on short notice. They used to have to contact us, and we would have to drop what we were doing to send a file to them. Now they can just log on to Widen and easily find what they need. Quick note about what kind of company this is: A few weeks after we first joined Widen, we asked our representative if a certain feature existed (sorry, I don't remember exactly what it was'it was something that would make things easier for some of our users). He said no, it doesn't, but he would suggest it to the development team. Just a few days later he called us back to let us know that he had talked to the development team and they were going to incorporate that feature into the next release, which was just a few weeks away from launching. Great news! So here is a company of people who listen to their customers and genuinely want us to have a good experience. The interface is easy to use, I like the upload wizard, I like uploading new versions of items--the asset's url stays the same. The only 'con' I can think of is that there was a bit of a learning curve at first to figure out how to, for example, send one or more assets to someone to download (not just view). For the most part, it's intuitive to use but plan to spend at least a few minutes familiarizing yourself with it when you first use it. We looked at other DAM products out there as well (don't remember their names). If anyone else out there is looking for a good DAM system, this is what worked for us. I could see it working for a large corporation or even a business like ours of ~130 people (plus over 100 presenters and international associates). The best value, best features, best customer service, a perfect fit. Thanks.

Widen Collective Digital Asset Management Platform for Large Corporations

Reviewed 8 years ago

Our company has used this platform for several years now and it's been increasingly important in our marketing communications strategy as we move from print to digital. The more I learn about the tool the most impressed I am, and there is always something new to learn because they not only keep pace with the latest technology -- they actually stay ahead. There is no need to build costly new platforms from scratch, we just need to rely on the experts at Widen, learn from them and deploy. Great value for anyone who is serious about digital marketing.

Pros

Easy to use and getting easier every day..

Cons

So much to learn and so little time!

Widen Collective Is Your Digital Asset Filing Cabinet

Reviewed 3 years ago

IT's hard to to quantify the value this project brought to our organization-but it was incredible. We have reduced the amount of time spent looking for images, we have given access directly to our agency (reducing the number of emails back and forth requesting assets) and since partnering with Widen we've improved the quality of our assets. I would absolutely recommend Widen to any organization looking for a solution to a similar problem.

Pros

As someone who loves to have everything neatly organized and labeled, I really appreciated the ability to easily organize, categorize and tag all of my organization's digital assets. It's a daunting task-hundreds or thousands of images and video files, all had to be housed in a cloud in a manner that was intuitive and retrievable. Yet, Widen Collective helped me make that happen.

Cons

As with any software, there is a learning curve. But, Widen offers comprehensive training and excellent customer support. Don't let this hold you back!

Finally! A system that is low-maintenance and works.

Reviewed 9 years ago

We've been on Widen for about two years so far and it has been great! Back before we were with Widen, we could make due with what we had...barely. Our team sat down with all the stake holders who would be using it on a regular basis and mapped out our needs, wants, etc., and then started doing some research. We went through three or four DAM system and had representatives from these companies explain what their systems could do, but they always seemed lacking, especially with the price tag they were quoting. Some of them we did like, but there would have to be equipment that was brought in to hold the assets and such, which would be ok, but then we would have to maintain the equipment. And then if there is an equipment issue we would likely have to wait for a representative to come fix it and hope it works. Just too much hassle for something we basically wanted to put assets on and keep them there for distribution. Then enter Widen. From the first demonstration of what their system can do, and the abilities we would have with setting permissions and distributing all the image, audio, and video assets, we were giving each other high-fives. Literally, we had the phone on mute and were high-fiving each other over and over again! The on-phone rep from Widen had no idea. We LOVED that we could upload assets onto Widen's cloud and our trainers all over the world could easily search, preview, and download any files we allowed them to. And there is zero maintenance on our end, other than uploading the assets, setting permissions, and making sure the proper metadata is typed in. And any time we have had an issue, Widen has been great about making sure a representative is there to help walk us through it. So, now we're into Widen about two years and I almost forget it's there sometimes. Whenever there was a video request, we had to manually get a video out to a trainer or someone, which takes time that we don't seem to have. Now, they can just log onto Widen, search for an asset, and download it. Seriously, get a Widen representative on the phone see what they can do for you.

Widen Collective

Reviewed 14 years ago

The Digital Asset System was put in place to provide easy access to assets owned by Trek Bicycle Corporation for those internally and externally. These assets can be ordered and downloaded at any time of day or night. It's an invaluable tool for our dealers, distributors, and international offices. ' The Media Template is an online ad, and media builder. It allows Trek to control brand consistency, while it allows our users to build media in minutes using pre-approved images and text without the need of expensive software programs. We use this portion of the site to provide promotional items and in store signage to our large dealer base. Overall, I think the Widen collective is a great product and I really enjoy working with Widen.

Pros

Good customer support Robust reporting features Assets can be downloaded in a variety of file formats Various types of file formats are supported Permissions can be setup to protect assets Users can access the site through a standard web browser Media can be built in minutes without needing expensive software programs Assets/media can be ordered and downloaded at any time of day or night Software updates made throughout the year

Cons

Pages can be slow to load at times Reporting tools can be confusing Custom enhancements to the site can be expensive Some education is needed for new users of the site The site is not setup for printing on demand Home page can be confusing if your site includes the DAM and the media builder

Off-The-Shelf DAM

Reviewed 5 years ago

Overall experience was positive. User management was simple, searching worked well, native features met our clients' needs.

Pros

Widen Collective was easy to implement in a short period of time. The native features were enough for all of the clients that we rolled this out for. The primary benefit that we saw was time-to-implement versus building our own custom DAM.

Cons

Long term cost is likely higher than a custom-built DAM for clients not needing all of the features offered by Widen Collective. The API, while decent, could use some additional features to make it easier to move data in and out without user interaction.

Roche Images review

Reviewed 14 years ago

Excellent company, excellent product. Roche uses only a portion of what Widen offers for our image collective, but we are truly impressed with the site we have.

Pros

Roche is about to begin its 9th year with Widen managing its online image collective. With a sales force of more than 300 along with an in-house marketing staff, agencies, and retail clients, having an easy-to-use central location for finding the latest product images has been a huge time saver and an efficient distribution solution. * Ease of adding new accounts * Ease of search and categorization * Ease of releasing / retiring images * Cost effectiveness * Prompt support

Cons

Because of the huge amount of variables available to the admin user, setting up a site with correct user permissions, asset groups, etc. can be intimidating and challenging if there is not a natural bent toward site organization or if a user doesn't have a daily hands-on role. To offset this, Widen offers tremendous support, reviewing site settings set by admins or walking an admin through the logic needed to set up the appropriate permissions.

The Widen DAM software is Intuitive, powerful, and extremely flexible. The implementation process was easy and Widen's support throughout the process made it painless. Overall a great value.

Painless Implementation and User Friendly

Reviewed 14 years ago

If you are getting started in a DAM solution and SAAS is your preferred model, take the time to understand the Widen offering.

Pros

From the time I spoke to the first salesperson until the implementation team got me up and running they kept us on track and on time. Their understanding of our needs enabled us to go into production in just a few month with minimal configuration post go live. The interface was simple and training our internal admins was short. Our external consumers were not trained at all and had no problem using the images. The Mass Transit Tool really faciliated getting images off our systems and out to our clients. We were able to move responsibility for uploading and categoring images back to the source, creating great efficiencies. Finally, my IT dept was not burdened with additional tasks and responsibilities, and the cost has been affordable.

Cons

I would have to make something up. Working with Widen has been one of the best vendor experiences I have had to date.

Digital Asset Management

Reviewed 12 years ago

If an organization has a need to store large amounts of digital assets and must share those assets across multiple departments, utilizing a DAM could bring tremendous value. While training and quality assurance are necessary to effectively implement a digital asset management system, the time and energy saved by storing assets in a comprehensive way in a central location can provide value to an organization.

Pros

The DAM is an excellent way to consolidate our digital assets into one place. It allows our employees to share data across multiple departments while eliminating uncertainty in where and how data is stored.

Cons

There is a learning curve while using the DAM. The DAM can only work effectively if users understand rules behind tagging data and how to operate the system. As with any type of process, continued training and quality control are necessary to ensure the effectiveness of the DAM.

Life Fitness Media Assets Collective

Reviewed 14 years ago

I highly recommend Widen as a source for data/asset storage for any company. The combination of ease-of-use, customer support and reasonable cost has made our choice in Widen a smart and effective.

Pros

Implementation of the site was simple. Cost was very affordable. Space used/space left is noted on the monthly statement giving me a nice tool to manage the number of assets we have on the collective. Communication about maintenance issues and update is outstanding. Feedback from new users has been that the sight is easy to navigate and download.

Cons

Perhaps the only blip that we have had from Widen is in the image retouching that they have provided us has not met our standards. However, with that said, they have made every effort to rectify the image outlining and it looks like we will be satisfied with the final outcome.

Lots of time saved. Ease of access to our creative assets and digital libraries, giving a visual catalog of content to review.

Pros

Easy to access assets and distribute them to teams, or have employees grab their own assets to save our Creative department valuable time. They're constantly improving their features and adding new ones, and are responsive to user feedback.

Cons

Integration with marketing automation costs extra. It'd like to see more of that supported in the future, and included in the base price.

Widen Collective Success

Reviewed 14 years ago

The Widen collective system probably saves me 800-1000 hours a year. That allows me to focus more on creative work, planning for new photography. For the most part the system is easy enough to use for the end user with a fairly low level of computer literacy. Every time the cost for the system comes up we simply create a graph showing the number of users, the number of assets downloaded, and then explain what the time savings is for our department. Once it becomes clear how much work is done, and done easier as a result of the ease our clients have in getting proper images the worth is absolutely clear.

Pros

Ease of use, cost effective, time saver, web-based for portability.

Cons

Would like more custom options available in the user interface. Would like to have an iphone ap designed specifically for managing users, and metadata on the collective.

Using the DAM site- digital asset managment

Reviewed 12 years ago

I would recommend this product to someone who has a dedicated person to put time into managing this system. There is a bit more work due to having key words and metadata.

Pros

The people who work for Widen are very knowledgable about their software and listen to your needs. The software has a number of features to automate usage. I have experienced very little bugs in the software. The over all value of the product is good.

Cons

The software almost has too much available for a smaller company with a small amount of products and product rollover.
