I am the Operations Supervisor for a small power plant. We do not have a dedicated HR group. I am tasked with recruiting, reviewing resumes, pre-employment testing, interviewing, hiring, and pre-employment requirements. This is in addition to all my other duties that actual pertain to keeping the plant running and working with the 28 people in my Operations Department. HireSelect has been a huge time saver for me. I have hired 13 Operators in the past 4 years. To hire 13 Operators we went through over 100 candidates. The customer service and assistance has been great from day one. The customer service department is always available to answer any questions or explain how a feature works. There are several other features I like about HireSelect. I have recommended HireSelect to several people in a similar position as mine. They have tried the free trial and they also see the benefits of using HireSelect.

Pros
The software provides access to several tests that provide an insight into a candidates personality, thoughts, and knowledge. HireSelect also is a convenient way to sort and store a large amount of data as it relates to potential candidates.

Cons
As the software recently went through an overhaul, I have not had enough time to dedicate to learning all the new features included in the update. The core of the program is still the same just the formatting and organizing have been modified. So far the new features I have used are better than the old program.

Our Customer Success Mgr, [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN], provided exceptional support during setup and implementation and continues to do so with regular check ins and prompt responses to any inquiries. Recent updates to the assessment summaries make it even easier to read and interpret each candidate's results.

Pros
The deep dive detail the summaries offer for each assessment really allows you to assess a candidate's strengths and weaknesses at a glance. It provides useful info to deep dive into for a follow up interview.

Cons
Customizing your own 'batteries' when creating your assessment package could be a little easier to arrive to. However, once you've gone through the process a few times, it gets easier.

Being a smaller company with less than 100 people, we no loner have a corporate HR since leaving Edison International. As the Operations Supervisor, I needed a tool to help manage the flow of job applicants and potential candidates for employment. By using the supplied aptitude, personality, knowledge, and basic skills tests provided by HireSelect we are able to reduce the number of interviews which are very time consuming on me and my staff. The HireSelect program is easy to use, easy to customize for different jobs and departments we are staffing. Also, we have started using the Test Creator feature to measure our employees on their knowledge gained about our plant systems. There are many more features that I use regularly to track candidates through the hiring pipeline. For the price, HireSelect is by far the most valuable tool in out HR toolbox.

Pros
The HireSelect software allows an easy way to compare candidates to a standard as well as to each other.

Cons
I have not experienced any negative aspects of HireSelect by Criteria Corp.

We have used these tests for candidates we are considering bringing into the company and they have been helpful. They have been easy to get to the candidates and we haven't had any complaints from candidates in regards to accessing the tests. They do provide an additional data point for candidates. We have also used these tests to gauge skills for current employees. They have been helpful in designing development plans.

Pros
Wide variety of skills and personality type assessments. They are easily administered online via an email and a link. Results are available online as well.

Cons
It would be helpful to be able to view the actual questions and potential answers to the tests prior to assignment of the tests. There is a description of what the test is measuring, but being able to see the content would give you a much better idea of the method behind the test.

With HireSelect we use the pre hire testing more than any other feature. We set a baseline with our current staff and were astounded at how well it read those staff that we quickly implemented. The results have been spot on which keeps us renewing this service every year.

Pros
The software is extremely user friendly. When I need to figure out how to do something new it takes not time at all but possibly their customer service even tops this. The easy scheduling system they have to reach out for someone to help is amazing and put the options in your hands.

Cons
Being a SAAS there were some hurdles to jump through with our purchasing department but more likely that is on our outdated requirements. The latest update was significant and hope to see more feature in the near future.

Customized Tests

At the core of HireSelect are a series of objective tests, created by academic psychologists and statisticians. HireSelect’s customizable tests cover three main areas: aptitude, personality, and skills. These tests have all been validated for many different job-related fields.

You can use the “Job Profiler” tool to select which tests you require a candidate to complete. HireSelect allows you to search through more than 1,100 job profiles from the U.S. Department of Labor, and it recommends specific tests based on the skills required for the jobs you’re trying to fill. As an administrator, you have the option to choose the tests you offer based on the criteria you select.

Remote Testing

The cloud-based nature of HireSelect means that job applicants don’t need to come into an office to take the aptitude tests a company requires. Organizations that use HireSelect are able to administer tests remotely. Or, if they prefer, they can administer tests on-site.

You can select whether you’d rather administer tests for applicants inside your office or at your applicants’ homes, and visit the “Administer Tests” module in the HireSelect platform to send testing access information to your candidates through email. If you’re interviewing multiple applicants, you have the option to expedite the process by including a link to your tests on your website or a job postings board.

Candidate Comparisons

Hiring managers can have trouble interpreting raw scores, which is why HireSelect has gone to great lengths to develop reliable indicators for comparing test takers against one another. In addition to viewing the raw scores for each test, managers can review percentile ranks to compare how well candidates did on their tests when compared to the scores of other test takers.

Click on your candidate’s “Score Reports” for an overview of how he or she performed. Although the results of aptitude tests are fairly easy to understand, it can be more challenging to decipher the results of personality tests. In most cases, HireSelect will include percentile ranks for selected traits in its personality tests, along with an overall score that’s based on a combination of all the traits being measured through the test.

Test Authoring

HireSelect’s tests have been designed by professionals from top academic institutions. However, there are also times when companies would like to test job applicants based on their own sets of employer-specific content. In those cases, businesses can use HireSelect’s “TestMaker” feature to create their own tests or adapt existing tests for custom uses.

Using HireSelect’s “TestMaker,” you can build your own tests to measure the knowledge of job applicants or new hires. HireSelect says that many businesses create their own tests to measure the usefulness of onboarding and training program, as well as diagnosing “retraining needs”.

Streamlined Hiring
