HireSelect Features In Depth

Customized Tests

At the core of HireSelect are a series of objective tests, created by academic psychologists and statisticians. HireSelect’s customizable tests cover three main areas: aptitude, personality, and skills. These tests have all been validated for many different job-related fields.

You can use the “Job Profiler” tool to select which tests you require a candidate to complete. HireSelect allows you to search through more than 1,100 job profiles from the U.S. Department of Labor, and it recommends specific tests based on the skills required for the jobs you’re trying to fill. As an administrator, you have the option to choose the tests you offer based on the criteria you select.

Remote Testing

The cloud-based nature of HireSelect means that job applicants don’t need to come into an office to take the aptitude tests a company requires. Organizations that use HireSelect are able to administer tests remotely. Or, if they prefer, they can administer tests on-site.

You can select whether you’d rather administer tests for applicants inside your office or at your applicants’ homes, and visit the “Administer Tests” module in the HireSelect platform to send testing access information to your candidates through email. If you’re interviewing multiple applicants, you have the option to expedite the process by including a link to your tests on your website or a job postings board.

Candidate Comparisons

Hiring managers can have trouble interpreting raw scores, which is why HireSelect has gone to great lengths to develop reliable indicators for comparing test takers against one another. In addition to viewing the raw scores for each test, managers can review percentile ranks to compare how well candidates did on their tests when compared to the scores of other test takers.

Click on your candidate’s “Score Reports” for an overview of how he or she performed. Although the results of aptitude tests are fairly easy to understand, it can be more challenging to decipher the results of personality tests. In most cases, HireSelect will include percentile ranks for selected traits in its personality tests, along with an overall score that’s based on a combination of all the traits being measured through the test.

Test Authoring

HireSelect’s tests have been designed by professionals from top academic institutions. However, there are also times when companies would like to test job applicants based on their own sets of employer-specific content. In those cases, businesses can use HireSelect’s “TestMaker” feature to create their own tests or adapt existing tests for custom uses.

Using HireSelect’s “TestMaker,” you can build your own tests to measure the knowledge of job applicants or new hires. HireSelect says that many businesses create their own tests to measure the usefulness of onboarding and training program, as well as diagnosing “retraining needs”.

Streamlined Hiring

HireSelect’s features work together to streamline the hiring process. In particular, the cloud-based platform functions as an advanced applicant tracking system (ATS) used to collect resumes and communicate with candidates.

Whether you use HireSelect as an adapted ATS or you integrate it into your existing ATS, the solution offers features that can expedite the time it takes to locate, evaluate, and hire qualified professionals. In addition to uploading resumes into HireSelect, you can also communicate with candidates and use analytics to objectively pinpoint the people best suited to work at your organization.

Great Software to Help in the Hiring Process

Very positive. From the beginning, I have found the support personnel to be easily accessible and willing to work through any questions that I have. They are a fountain of knowledge and I enjoy working with them. The software offers me another "tool in my toolkit" when working with my clients to help them be their best.

Pros

I have also used it with current employees when working to assess a team and especially with the new format for the Employee Personality Profile, it provides an easy way to give feedback and insight to the team members.

Cons

There are a couple of tests that are not my favorites to use, especially when using them with current employees but that is not a huge issue.

Great Software

Through employee personality profile scores, and by matching candidate competencies against benchmarks, we are finding candidates who are proving to be better fits for certain jobs, which is also leading to increased employee retention.

Pros

I like that I can create my own battery of assessments, based on each specific job description. I also like how quickly I can access the results, can compare candidates' assessments, and can review individual competencies.

Cons

On the Employee Personality Profile, I wish there were a few more benchmarked positions to choose from.

We have learned a lot about the tests from all the applicants and from having our really good loyal employees take the test and then were able to see things that stand out and help our hiring process or Lean it out a bit.

Pros

Simplistic and ask many questions rather than just a few.

Cons

It would be nice to see maybe how long it was taking an applicant to answer question or do the entire test to see if they are just not reading and putting zero thought into their answers or if they are diligently reading and putting thought into each question asked.

We have also used these tests to gauge skills for current employees. They have been helpful in designing development plans.

Pros

Wide variety of skills and personality type assessments. They are easily administered online via an email and a link. Results are available online as well.

Cons

It would be helpful to be able to view the actual questions and potential answers to the tests prior to assignment of the tests. There is a description of what the test is measuring, but being able to see the content would give you a much better idea of the method behind the test.

I love that I can search for a job title and it recommends test banks to use, which saves us time. It is intuitive to use, especially nice for hiring managers that aren't in it all the time.

The typing test and computer proficiency test helps me weed out unqualified candidates quickly and easily. I can also evaluate aptitude with the Criteria Cognitive Test, and I can see a correlation between that score and quality of work.

Pros

The variety of assessments help me choose the best fit for each position. I can evaluate a number of different levels, aptitude, personality, or specific skills.

Cons

Now, the price is cheap for the service, but I don't know why I would have to upgrade just for an integration.

Pros

I like all of the additional information given outside of the numerical scores the most. It allows me to make the most informed choice rather than simply going off the summary score.

Cons

Since I automate the use of Hire Select Assessments, it only sends out the link, and therefore, does not automatically attach finished assessments to my candidates' profiles.

The product is solid and the customer service can't be beaten.

Pros

My favorite part of working with them though is their customer service. It is outstanding and above and beyond the level of support I receive from any other vendors I've worked with throughout my career.

Cons

They do have one issue that they are still addressing which is that their testing services don't always work without error on Explorer or Edge internet browsers.
