Pros and cons

The overall use of this product is amazing, very easy to use and my clients love it. The love the fact that they can do edits themselves.
It's good for what it is, which is a basic website maker that has the ability to make very function, nice looking pages.
Love that Squarespace introduced me to web design due to its ease of use. Templates are as great as Wix and both are really great competitors to one another.
The options are limited. Editing pages can be difficult because everything needs to be dragged and dropped into place, but most of the time all of the other blocks will shift during editing.
One of my colleagues who is taking over for me, really disliked how the Squarespace template prevented any changes. He contacted Squarespace and with their assistance was able to break the template.
The flip side is that Squarespace has few if any bugs, while Wix and Weebly can get strange errors in my experience.

The best web design platform available

Reviewed 4 years ago

I am designing 99% of my clients websites on Squarespace. It helps me get to market faster and easier, and deliver a product my clients love.

Pros

I have been designing websites professionally for over 15 years and it's very rare that I don't design on Squarespace for clients. It's easy to use, the templates are beautiful, and there are so many features and endless flexibility.

Cons

I wish custom code injection was available on the basic/personal levels. As of right now, you need to upgrade to the business account to inject any code in the header or footer.

Great service!!

Reviewed a month ago

I have been using Squarespace for over a year now and I am very happy with it. Squarespace is a website builder that lets you create beautiful and professional-looking websites without any coding knowledge. You can choose from a variety of templates that suit your needs and customize them with your own colors, fonts, images and content. Squarespace also offers a custom domain name, hosting, ecommerce features, analytics, SEO tools and customer support.

Pros

What I love about Squarespace is how easy and intuitive it is to use. The drag-and-drop interface makes it simple to add and edit elements on your website. The templates are responsive and look great on any device. The ecommerce features are robust and allow me to sell my products online with ease. The analytics dashboard helps me track my website performance and optimize it for SEO. The customer support is friendly and helpful, and they always respond quickly to my queries.

Cons

The only thing I wish Squarespace had is more flexibility and customization options. Sometimes I feel limited by the template design and layout, and I wish I could change more things without having to use code. I also wish Squarespace had more integrations with other platforms and tools that I use for my business.

Not my cup of tea

Reviewed a month ago

Squarespace was ok for a beginner because you can use templates. As long as you don't mind a very simple clean design with not many options, you are good with Squarespace.

Pros

I liked that it was easy to setup if you are just looking for a very simple website. It was ok to navigate simple menus.

Cons

It just lacked a lot of features and customization that I felt was ultra necessary for me to create a website that shows my style.

Pros

Squarespace is an excellent website builder that offers professional-looking templates and a user-friendly editor. With its strong eCommerce features, creating an online store is fast and effortless. Overall, Squarespace is a great choice for anyone looking to build a high-quality website quickly and easily.

Cons

One disadvantage of Squarespace is its limited design flexibility, which may not be suitable for users looking for extensive customization options. Additionally, Squarespace is considered a more premium-priced provider compared to other website builders in the market, which may not be ideal for users on a tight budget. Finally, while Squarespace offers strong eCommerce features, it may not be the best option for businesses with complex eCommerce needs.

A Comprehensive and User-Friendly Website Builder.

Reviewed 22 days ago

Overall, my experience with Squarespace has been positive. The platform's interface is user-friendly and intuitive, and the templates are professional-looking and easy to customize. The built-in SEO tools and e-commerce functionality make it a great choice for businesses looking to establish an online presence. However, the cost and limited design options may be a drawback for some users.

Pros

Squarespace is a fantastic website builder that offers a wide range of templates and customization options. The platform is easy to use, even for those without any coding experience, thanks to its drag-and-drop interface. The templates are modern and visually appealing, and the platform's built-in SEO tools help ensure that your website ranks well in search engines. The e-commerce functionality is also robust, with features such as abandoned cart recovery, inventory management, and multiple payment options.

Cons

While Squarespace is a great website builder overall, it can be a bit expensive compared to other options in the market. Additionally, while the platform's design options are impressive, they can be limiting for those who want more flexibility and control over the look and feel of their website. Customizing templates may require some coding knowledge, which can be a drawback for beginners.

Easy to Use

Reviewed 16 days ago

Squarespace is a user-friendly website that can allow you to create a professional looking layout in a matter of minutes. I have never had an issue with design, file management, or content addition.I do not like the high fees for Squarespace, nor do I like that I cannot have a live chat with customer support.

Pros

There are many customizable templates to pick from. There are also constant updates with added on features.Overall, the back end is really use to use and self intuitive. You can edit a web page in minutes.I can make my website interactive, thereby allowing users to interact and engage. The graphic layouts are attractive. There are many user guides that allow you to troubleshoot features. There are many professional layouts, it makes my business look presentable.

Cons

Squarespace increased the fee for its users, without grandfathering in users that paid the older price. This makes me wary of how often they may increase their pricing for loyal customers.Once you select a template, it is difficult to switch to another website template. There is no real time customer service- it is through email, unless you pay extra fees.

Squarespace is generally well-received as a comprehensive website builder with sleek design and powerful features. Its user-friendly interface, mobile responsiveness, and customer support are some of the features that users appreciate. Additionally, the platform offers a range of customization options, making it accessible to users without coding skills. However, users should be aware of its limitations and potential concerns, such as limited flexibility, high cost, and potential limitations in integrations. Overall, Squarespace is a valuable tool for businesses and individuals who need to create professional-looking websites, but users should carefully evaluate their needs and requirements before using the platform and be aware of its limitations and potential concerns.

Pros

Sleek design: Squarespace offers a range of stylish templates and customization options that allow users to create visually appealing websites without needing coding skills.Powerful features: The platform offers a range of features, including e-commerce capabilities, built-in analytics, and SEO tools, that make it a comprehensive website builder.User-friendly interface: Squarespace has a user-friendly interface that makes it easy for users to build and manage their websites.

Cons

Limited flexibility: While Squarespace offers a range of customization options, some users may find that the platform has limitations when it comes to advanced customization and coding.Cost: Some users have reported that the cost of Squarespace plans is higher than they would like, which can be a drawback for businesses on a budget.Limited integrations: Squarespace may not integrate with other software or platforms that businesses use, which can be a limitation for some users.Lack of control: Squarespace is a closed platform, which means that users have limited control over the backend of their website.

Web Design, but make it fun.

Reviewed 3 years ago

I first started using Squarespace under another Photographer, whom I was managing their studio and day to day "to-do's". I took over her website maintenance and blog, to which was surprisingly easy to navigate. I loved how I was able to read analytics and see what content was working and what was not. The sleek layouts made a few easy clicks look like I spent 4 years in web design. So it was really a no brainer when I decided to start my own business; I knew I would be showing my work to the world through Squarespace. There is just something about the designs of these Squarespace websites that look stunningly polished and exceptionally functional.

Pros

As a former user of Wordpress, I found Squarespace to be a breath of fresh air. I've be using it since 2014 and have never looked back. It actually made designing my website and grabbing analytics fun! When navigating the software, it felt like I had been here before. It was so easy to find the tools and customize the fonts and sizing to my preferences. Adding pictures in where I need them is easy...

Cons

There are very few things that come to mind when talking about disliking this software. I do wish there was a larger library of fonts readily available for each area of customization, across all themes.

Allowing my nonprofit's website to stay adaptive and relevant amidst an ever-changing web.

Reviewed 2 years ago

Squarespace won me over after years of thinking I could do a better job "designing it" on my own with free templates for WordPress. Time and time again I would spend days or weeks on the site, be happy with it, and then months later it would all be out of date, look old, and not function in the ways that information transfer had shifted by internet users. I decided that a professional, clean and easy to use Squarespace site, with robust back-end capabilities is what I needed, and I have not been disappointed.

Pros

Squarespace really has their act together in offering a clean, easy to use , beautiful web building platform. I run a media and video production nonprofit, and the needs and functionality of my site have evolved almost yearly since 2013. The way that people engage with content on the internet is always changing, and I got caught up in the flow of trying to always evolve the website to keep up. I used...

Cons

I wish there were maybe 15-20 more templates, and that a few of them were specifically meant for video galleries, as that is what my organization focuses on in our storytelling, videos. I would love a template tailor made for aggregating videos. For now I can use a photo gallery or blog and adapt it, which works fine, but my wish list would be a video focused and designed template.

Easy and Elegant

Reviewed 2 years ago

I love SquareSpace. I would really need to be wowed to switch to another company. This has everything I want (not just need) to create a great first impression

Pros

I love how simple it is to create the aesthetic I want to share with the public. The customer support team was so helpful whenever I met a snag in implementation. That hardly ever happened though, because it is so straightforward to create my own website with gorgeous content thanks to SquareSpace and their templates

Cons

There have been a few times where links have broken on my website and it has been challenging to get them reinstated.

Be Fancy....AND Simple....Live Your Website Dreams!

Reviewed 4 years ago

Overall, Squarespace gets the job done and looks good doing it! I do hope that there's continued improvement in the area that I mentioned above, but overall, I've been happy with Squarespace.

Pros

What drew me to Squarespace initially were the aesthetics. The style and choice of their templates were a cut above what I had seen on Wordpress or WIX - of which I did try using both platforms at one point in time. I also LOVE how user friendly Squarespace is! Even if you're not super techie, it feels very intuitive and dare I say...fun to use...

Cons

One of my biggest cons lies within the "blogging" aspect of Squarespace. There are a great deal of limitations in formatting, especially if you don't know how to code. When creating a draft of a blog, Squarespace does not *automatically save anything as you go....so I cringe at the times that I've lost an entire blog post because something froze --- the remedy I was told was to simply type out a blog post in another application (Word, etc.) and then post it in the blog section. But I often find myself editing a draft in Squarespace -- making final corrections.....so I have to be veryyy careful to only edit in my "Word" document and not make any changes once I put it into Squarespace or it has the potential of being lost....

Best in class product by far for several years now

Reviewed 2 years ago

I teach classes on digital marketing and entrepreneurship and ask my students to build a website without coding within a week that looks professional and generate sales from their website. SquareSpace has always helped them build a best in class product. The website we have built quickly to get our companies started have resonated well with investors and everyone always compliments the look and feel of our sites.

Pros

I have used SquareSpace for over 5 years now, using the platform to build a minimum viable product before scaling to custom built websites, to putting up new websites that look extremely professional very quickly. Everyone who looks at the websites are impressed with how they look, not knowing it only took a few minutes to build. They continue to add functionality over the years. They have a great dedication to customer service as well that responds quickly.

Cons

Moving some objects around was not always as intuitive as I thought they could be. If there are a tremendous amounts of data on a screen it may be slower to edit than it always was. Very minor bugs discovered on rare occasions. Just nitpicking, wonderful product.

Love hate relationship.

Reviewed 3 years ago

It’s a good option for the price, but as soon as I can afford more, I’m personally going to move on to a better website builder with more customization ability.

Pros

I love that it looks classy even if you’re not familiar with how to use website designing softwares. This is mostly due to the fact that they only allow certain liberties to the user unless the user knows code. In other words, they do not allow the user to make major changes to their templates, because they had professional designers put the templates together so they’d look great! And why let the user mess with a professionally designed look?

Cons

The fact that the user cannot change much means that intermediate users are out of luck. In my case, I am very familiar with how to make an appealing design, and I am also familiar with website builders in general, BUT I do not know coding so I can’t change details that way. Because I know more than a beginner, I get very frustrated at the limitations in design that I am dealt by Squarespace. For instance, they only allow 3 font styles throughout the site, which I understand is a great design approach, but sometimes a different font size or color is NEEDED. Just saying! (Particular afternoon campaign you might want to feature on a particular page, a slight color variation so it shows up better on a photo, etc.)

Clean, simple start-up but not the smoothest system.

Reviewed 2 years ago

I use Squarespace primarily for blogging and building a brand. It is not optimal for writing, editing and photos, but it makes for a great, clean website with many options with electronic forms, pull down menus and features. Overall, it's a great product, but still very clunky and unsteady.

Pros

It is easy for a non-expert like me to build a blog, navigate a website and make quick edits. Squarespace stands out above the rest in simplicity with drag and drop features. It does a good job with electronic forms to make a way for more to opt in and covers all the bases on what you need for a website. They offer great analytics!

Cons

The software is very clunky. I tend to use it on my MacBook, but have learned to write content somewhere safer than putting it straight into website. It has crashed so many times, and adding pictures often takes a very long time. The iOS apps seem to work better but that's not optimal for my work. I've also struggled some with text editing and formatting. The process isn't smooth.

Great Website Builder and Templates for Businesses and Artists

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, the Squarespace website builder has served my business well. I’m able to have professional-looking websites that deliver the message I want to get across, all in great-looking design. Coupled with the integrated online scheduler where my clients can book their appointments and the integrated marketing tools, it serves my business needs daily.

Pros

I have 3 Squarespace websites for my photography and multimedia businesses and 1 Squarespace website for my personal work/artist portfolio. I’ve been a Squarespace user for a long time, and since then things have only improved with the choice of templates and the design possibilities. A significant advantage is that you don’t need to be tied to a template design and customize the design and add custom...

Cons

Squarespace is still heavily focused on English-speaking and North-American customers/businesses when it comes to selling products. For example, for companies that are not based in the US, there’s still no built-in possibility to accept local payment gateways if you want to sell products or services. Many customers in EU regions prefer to pay online using their local bank payment gateways rather than credit cards. Compared to some other website builders. The ability to sell products or services using your local payment gateway is still missing in Squarespace as something that's built and that you can activate with the click of a button.

Perfect for Creative Professionals, Limiting for E-Commerce

Reviewed 8 months ago

Squarespace has allowed me to build an online space where I can sell my artwork and share creative projects. As my product line grows I will need to move the shop aspect to an alternative like Shopify. However, I will remain using Squarespace as the main website for my business and services.

Pros

Squarespace is my favorite website builder for small businesses and creative professionals. I love that it is so easy to set up and customize to fit my branding and voice. Squarespace makes it easy for one person to create their own portfolio or website to promote their work or house their services.

Cons

While Squarespace has been my favorite website host as a creative professional, it is lacking in e-commerce tools and support. Simple things like having a filtering system for a shop page require additional plug-ins, or coming up with DIY solutions (that will ultimately require more work long term). Squarespace's commerce functions may be appropriate for a shop with one or very few product categories. However, as the product line expands and falls under different categories, it becomes much harder for the user to sort through products and locate what they need.

Squarespace remains my top choice, but just barely.

Reviewed 5 years ago

I used to build my own sites - first manually then through Wordpress. I used to have a lot of security issues. Multiple hacks and breaches. Lost sites and downtime. I haven't lost a wink of sleep over a website since I signed up for Squarespace. For me, that's worth the money I pay. The software is beautiful, slick and simple (once you understand it - it's a bit quirky). But the cost keeps rising while other, cheaper options keep getting better. I still love Squarespace, but it's increasingly tough to recommend based on price.

Pros

Squarespace is easy to set up (a site can be completed in an hour or less if you have all the info you need ready to go). Once a site is live, it rarely has any issues, becomes visible on Google fairly quickly, and there are no security worries to deal with as everything is hosted on THEIR servers, not mine. The templates are the best in the business and it's difficult to make a Squarespace site look ugly. Not impossible of course, but tough :) Drag and drop interface is great and integrations abound.

Cons

Squarespace has become increasingly expensive, moving more and more features to higher and higher tiers. Their e-commerce options are great for a simple store with few product options, but you cannot change the image of a product when a customer selects a variation of that product - like a different colour of shift, for example. This was a deal-breaker on a recent project and drove us toward Shopify....

Easy to Use, High Quality In-House Website Design

Reviewed 2 years ago

We researched and previewed a number of website development platforms before selecting Squarespace, and we've been very happy with our choice. It is very user-friendly and easy to learn how to customize and brand our pages. It is a great, cost-effective option that we recommend to other schools looking for a tool to manage their website in-house.

Pros

Squarespace is a very user-friendly and cost-effective product that allows us to create, maintain and adapt our school website in-house. Clean, professional templates are easily customizable and provide us the functionality we need to maintain an active web presence. The phone app also provides a good amount of flexibility to make quick edits and adjustments to our site on the go. The ability to create forms that can be directly linked into Google Drives has been one notable positive for us. It gives us the option to quickly customize and create forms that can then be shared and track responses for us. The website analytics function is very helpful in providing us with real-time insights and date on web traffic and usage.

Cons

There are some natural limitations to the ability to customize pages that will come with any basic website development platform. For example, in order to upload video, it must already be hosted on another platform (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).

Squarespace: the platform that empowers creatives

Reviewed a year ago

I use Squarespace to showcase my work and tell my story to potential clients, and allow them to book in a call with me. It's an essential part of my client acquisition process.

Pros

Squarespace has made my career possible. It allowed me to build the portfolio that landed my first full-time graphic design job, and is now the platform I use to showcase my work and win freelance clients. Its balance of simplicity and customisability empowers me as a designer to build a website that represents me and my small design business in the best light possible.

Cons

I will admit I've had to rely quite heavily on custom CSS to get my site looking the way I'd like — this wouldn't be much of a problem if it weren't for the poor CSS coding experience. Squarespace only gives me a very small window to type in, and it's very difficult to navigate the 400 lines or so of code I've written. There is also an abundance of unused code (Javascript) that gets loaded into my...

Reviewed 6 years ago

I have been using Squarespace for my e-commerce business for a few years now and love it! Squarespace sites are easy to create and update, while always remaining beautiful. I have used other drag-and-drop website building software in the past and even though the layouts looked right when I was editing, once I viewed them live and on different devices, there were always problems. Best option for Small Businesses that aren't IT savvy

Reviewed 5 years ago

If you are a small business or a startup trying to get a professional web presence, or an existing company with a horrible website, don't believe the limitations of a decade ago and "pro" web developers and companies that create websites for you for a large sum of money with continuing maintenance costs. Website development sites like Squarespace allow for any moderately computer literate individual...

Pros

Ease of use is unparalleled. Templates are aesthetically unmatched by competitors- it's not even close. The ability to switch between templates whenever you want is amazing. Very professional feel to website with seamless G Suite integration. Cost is very competitive. Mobile optimized websites are lightyears beyond GoDaddy and Wix.

Cons

The templates are amazing, and there are a lot of choices, but if you don't like the options, you are stuck with what they have. Customizing is very limited within the Template framework, unlike Wix. In order to be glitch-free and mobile optimized, the templates have very little customization.
